I reinstalled the game yesterday, so, it would be interesting to see how long it will take to complete the game when you already know what to do. Here I will explain important decisions and priorities crucial, in my opinion, to complete the game as soon as possible.

Important step number 1. Don't buy cheap generals at the start of the game. Don't buy mediocre generals only because you can buy them. Don't buy good generals because you like them. First question every new player should ask himself is: "Who is the most useful general for me right now?". The correct answer is - a general who will help you with grinding medals while you are playing and replaying first campaigns. As it was proved by yuanzhong the best grinding mission at the start of the game (and maybe even in the game altogether) is "Blitzkrieg". We already have two generals able to farm medals - Bock and Messe. Now we have to bring another one, to make our grinding process more efficient. 5 f2p generals hit the mark. Namely Guderian, Leeb, Doenitz, Badoglio and Kesselring. So, our first goal is to hire one of them. But which one? I already know that world of GoG is ruled by tanks. It was true for GoG Classic, GoG Pacific and even GoG 2 (one completely different game). The same is true here. Artillery, Infantry, Air force generals - all of them support our tanks to do their job. So, the answer is pretty obvious to me - my first general will be Guderian. It is not important at all who is better Guderian or Rommel. The most important thing is that Guderian is able to grind medals as soon as we bought him. Many players don't like grinding and I can understand them, but it is the most efficient tool for getting medals at the start of the game. We can't ignore it or deny it.

I am in late 1944 and have done absolutely no grinding (and I am f2p). Still, my team is pretty strong (Axis: Guderian, Rommel, Leeb, Yamashita, Kesselring Allies: Patton, Monty, MacArthur, Govorov) and I haven't been stuck on a mission yet. I have also calculated that I can get 2 more generals before the start of 1945 (no grinding, just perfecting 1944) which should be enough to complete the game.

No, of course, grinding is not required. I personally rather hate it, and only did it in North Africa, because latter campaigns were not available back then. But, I am sure it is helpful. One additional source of medals won't hurt anyone. Besides, there are two ways to complete any mission: 1. To find a tactical solution. 2. To roll over all opposing forces. If someone can't find a first one, he can always deploy more and better generals and SF. For many new (or casual) players this second option is often a single one.

Still, if I eventually have to grind because I bought De Gaulle or something, I would rather do army groups than grind campaigns. They may be slower, but they won't make me mentally ill.

Army groups are not a synonym of "fun" in my dictionary either . I agree that doing Blitzkrieg again and again is mentally exhausting, but latter it is possible to grind more interesting and complex campaigns. There are plenty of them. So, I like this idea in general.

So, I like this idea in general. Blitzkrieg is quick and short and gives 3-4 medals everytime. Fun way to kill time. (Maybe not so much ) But Army groups are really fun, though slow. Some of them are quick like the German Army groups in 1939 where you just have to kill one of either Britain or France, attack the other and donate to your allies. Killing just Yugoslavia or Poland won't work though.

Also randomperson, you have a strong lineup courtesy perfect clears and achievements which is grinding in a way because you have done most of the missions again, unless you are a master strategist and perfect cleared them all on first try itself.

I perfect cleared most star missions on the first/second try. First try is usually a bit lucky, while second try is when I know exactly what will happen (e.g, a massive enemy army spawning from thin air or getting reinforcements by doing something). Some exceptions are the East Indies Campaign and New Guinea Campaign which both took a long time and a lot of attempts. For basic missions, I perfect clear most of them first try but that's probably because my general team is quite strong.

But after you completed all 1939 army groups they ceased to be fun, I assure you This 6vs6 concept is really annoying if you do it again and again. It could be a real fun if we had 20vs20 units on larger battlefields. Besides, AI isn't brilliant, and you can beat all of them following one and the same pattern - just spam infantry and occupy all defenceless provinces. AI doesn't defend its key provinces either. You can take Berlin with one half-dead Infantry unit. I find a classical conquest more interesting. I hope they will add another one someday.

yuanzhong, btw, is it possible to get a medal when our generals counterattack, or does it happen only when they attack and we can skip AI's turn?

Ironically, I just tested this before reading your post. I put my generals and turned on auto mode and did not skip the enemy's turn. I did not get even a single medal, for my turn nor for the enemy's turn.

For some reasons the game won't count this attempt as valid, insisting that we should rather die of boredom instead while doing it manually
