We've been tricked, We've been backstabbed, and we've quite possibly, been bamboozled.
I was puzzled - why would people be asking for so much help on this one battle, in 1939 no less.
It should be easy, manageable to say the least. Yet it warranted 4 full pages of discussion in the previous guide. Here
So I read through all 4 pages, sped through the tutorial videos, and then played it for myself again with my endgame general lineup. I almost lost.
I played it again and again, each time facing swarms of germans. Now, a ton of replays later, I found what we were missing.
It was the ports.
Mission Objectives: Control 2 Areas for 12 Turns
Sub 1: Hold Chania for 6 turns
Sub 2: Defeat Student in 6 turns
Sub 3: Defeat 12 Enemy Units in 8 turns
Generals Used: Cunningham (Cruiser), Leclerc (Medium Tank)
Battle Flow Brief
Overall Strategy: Defend your ports.
Detailed Breakdown
To start off, place Leclerc on the medium tank and Cunningham on the Cruiser.
Wipe out the coastal paratroopers with Leclerc and build a coastal artillery. Perhaps you can try using Scotland Engineers to build faster.
Move Cunningham and the destroyer up to attack the submarine.
The position of the destroyer is important as it effectively blockades the entrance to the eastern port.
I personally would start moving my artillery to help out the western city. I don't want to lose it too soon, and it can give more targets for the enemy ships to hit.
Afterwards, wipe up the enemies along the beach, and try to move your destroyer to this position to attack student. This position would lure student out to attack you, drawing him away from the airport. This would force him to take the sea route towards your city, and into your coastal artilleries.
If you can't move there for whatever reason, continue blockading the entrance to the port. Same with Cunningham, use him to block the port.
If you do manage to reach that position with your destroyer, you'll encounter a situation like this, where the cruiser approaches the port while student is drawn away from the airport. To counter this, roll Leclerc and your another troop to man the beaches and attack the cruiser while moving your other troops out of range.
The cruiser should be attracted to your general and attack it instead of moving into the port.
If you are really uncertain about this, you can use the safer route, which is to attack it with everything you've got, including Cunningham and the torpedo bomber reinforcements. Shifting Cunningham by a grid should will still block enemies from accessing the port.
On the western front, which is not quiet, I would advise shifting your artillery to shoot the ships. After all, it's a 3v1, not very fair.
On the eastern front, I would purchase ship reinforcements to blockade the port. The paratroopers will also attack during this turn, so move your troops to favourable locations. Don't be me. Bottlenecking Leclerc up the beach is not a good idea. I should've bought another infantry to hold the entrance.
On the next turn, after dealing with the paratroopers, enemy troops will spawn on the eastern front. Continue holding the port and deal with them. Cunningham's reinforcements will have arrived by now, and things will become considerably easier with his firepower.
Just continue holding the ports and you're set for a victory!
I hope this revisited guide clears up some things!
Final notes: My tech level and forces are maxed out, so you'll definitely have a different experience if you're just entering this level. Keep in mind to make flexible use of reinforcements, notably the heavy tank and ship reinforcements that you can purchase.
Note 2: It's definitely worthy reading through the first discussion and several notable guides on methods to use to defend the beaches.

If you have another other questions or methods, feel free to discuss in the thread!
