Anyone still play these games? I kinda stopped when i got stuck in Middle east and Antarctica, but I still play old campaigns occasionally, as I think these are EasyTechs best games.

I'm thinking of starting on this, if only to consolidate and create guides into a library. This sub-forum and game does seem quite deserted though.

I'm playing GOG Pacific on another, currently more active device. I do have GOG as well, but my progress here is not as well developed.
Farming Medals here is just as bad, if not worse than WC3's tabletop wait, unless WC3 has received updates. Plus, these games only allows F2P players to buy one gen and forces players to upgrade their Commander at increasingly expensive prices.
Their lack of leniency is probably a major disappointing factor and the newer games with their improved mechanics and greater leniency do also draw players away. Plus, this game feels more challenging than some of the harder battles in newer games. Eg. Typhoon of Steel feels daunting until you have 60 gold per turn as your primary income, but you can mess up Battle of Okinawa, an endgame campaign, and still Perfect Clear it in GOG3.
In fact, I feel that Operation Downfall, the last mission for the Allies in the first of three campaign series, cannot be cleared with 5* unless you have a primary income of 60 coins, which requires close to all upgrades for our economy. Same goes for Battle of Imphal (except that I couldn't win with 40 coins), which is close to the end of the Pacific Axis series.

Classic and Pacific are terrible, they don't have Ushijima. ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// But in all seriousness, they are excellent, very difficult games with: Cons: Unfortunately very little explored on them general-wise other than "Probably should get a tank gen." It has the grinding system of EW4, which makes it easy to get a gen if you spend some time (or Auto-Click) grinding and beating levels. I don't know much of GOGP, but in the Classic one, it is ridiculously hard to get past Eastern Front. All in all, imagine playing EW4 with no princesses, and difficulty starting at Eastern Overlord/SNS. Has a WW2 aspect to it, if the WCs and GOG3 exhausted that interest in games, very simplistic view of campaigns, requires you to go stupid quick. Also practically no guides. Pros: With the possible exception of EW5 (move over Army Group), the best conquest system to date, excellent and fun challenge for very good players, lots of Generals territory yet unexplored, the Financial tech is super interesting, and I hope they add it in other games. Highly recommended for good players, who unfortunately do not include myself. The graphics are way ahead of their time, and, as a double edged sword, you get to see what generals looked like in real life.

Just started last night. The graphics are just right out of the 2000s. I'm a sense of amazement about the history of the game.
The morale drops seem very significant, and artilleries seem like the key troop.
Also, is there any way to redeploy my main general? Every time I start a campaign mission, he's already auto-deployed. At the same time, does perfect clearing a stage actually give more rewards?

Morale is huge, and in terms of gens, tanks win, infantry can build those massively OP fortifications, and Artillery have sheer power. Nope, you can't use your commander in legion mode, either. Perfect clearing a stage must be done the first time around, because you cannot replay it for extra rewards. it is 50 medals for a perfect, 25 for one turn short, 15 for middle, 5 for one turn away from defeat, 0 for defeat on the last turn.

Seriously, fortifications are crazy important, and I think this is the only game where they are. In addition, this is one of the few games where navy, land, air, and forts are all good buys.

Air is pretty overpriced IMO, the only time i really remember using it is to clear Storm of Steel on the last turn.

On Smigly in March on Warsaw where I tested it, a fighter did from 17 damage to 41. A lottery if you will.

Oh my, no wonder perfect clears are so important. I was wondering why I wasn't getting more medals on a second playthrough. I've noticed that land forts are purely defensive in this game. Am I missing something and are they supposed to attack too?

Arty to counter on one and does like +50% damage to infantry and +20% to tanks. Land Forts increase range and deal damage to everyone by like 10%. Anti air reduces air damage in that he and all around it by 80 or 90 percent, and Entrenchment reduces damage by like 20%.

Commander will soon be too good for the airfield.

Seriously, fortifications are crazy important, and I think this is the only game where they are. In addition, this is one of the few games where navy, land, air, and forts are all good buys. They are all usable, but only the best is acceptable. Take stoic's advice for investing Medals here because we have to make do with far less (Medals generated unless you replay certain missions / Legions). Minor upgrades for arty, all in for Economy and the rest should go into Commander and your one gen. Of course, having a gen with air *s is nice. At the very least, air strikes and bombings will not be dealing low dmg when commanded by such a gen. Thanks to EW4 and the newer games' more lenient farming system and the relatively new Daily ADs feature, more modern ET games can allow for more flexible playthroughs which you love. This is one of the more rigid games.
Against Land fort, all ranged enemies are countered unless inf units attack a field arty unit. Against Bunkers, all melee enemies are countered, except for a 1-hex shot from light arty against a field arty.

Commander will soon be too good for the airfield. IMO its better to buy the single tank general (I.E the legendary Vatutin) then an air general (unless you spend money for more spots). In regards to the commander on airfield question. I simply meant for times you have a large amount of coins to spend (I.E going for the final objective but you have no units nearby).
