There aren't that many great cavalry generals, in fact none really good except Hannibal and Belisarius. Banner of Jupiter isn't very good either, the skills it buffs are mediocre except infantry commander and the talent is basically just level 5 ambush. The banner of Vulcan on Vercingetorix is much better imo. Hannibal, Belisarius, Huo, Scipio, and Arminius are all great. 4 Cav gens is certainly enough. All of the skills it buffs are excellent: InfCom, PF, Siege, and Counter are all some of the best skills in the game, and Level 5 Ambush is admittedly OP. Belisarius has great skills, though a mediocre talent. Arminius has a couple good skills and a couple decent ones, plus a very good talent. Huo has very good skills and talent as well. But none of them have speed, and also only Belisarius has cavalry commander. Antony has speed and cavalry commander (and he's served me well), but he has no durability and only one skill that really helps him in combat. I'm doing f2p so no Hannibal. The Commander on cavalry can be tougher than Antony, nearly as high-powered as those guys, and basically able to teleport as well. Based on some of your comments I've got the impression that you're not in love with March quite as much as some other people?

Personally, I think that Antony is way to weak to be of any use. Very fragile, especially for having Commander. And no, I am not fond of March. It is expensive and doesn't do near as much as a skill like Assault or Charge. In fact, I put it underneath Raid. At least that works some of the time. In this game, speed can be used less and is less important than, say, WC4 or EW4. The reasons are that the timers are generally pretty forgiving, as well as the fact that quick dashes are stopped by fog of war and the sheer slog through enemies. If you want a good, fast, cav gen, give Belisarius the Golden Feather.

It's useless if you only face units, but if you can equip siege equipment, it will be great for taking out city garrisons. His skills make up for it outside it. Also, don't listen to gerd. The only answer to the question of: "how many cavalry do you need?" is all of them.

The reasons are that the timers are generally pretty forgiving, as well as the fact that quick dashes are stopped by fog of war and the sheer slog through enemies. If you want a good, fast, cav gen, give Belisarius the Golden Feather. OK, so I looked at Belisarius again to see if I was misunderstanding his talent, and I was. Yeah, that's pretty OP. And yes, Antony carried me early along with Pacorus, but both are collecting pensions now, I may sell soon. Fog of war is annoying, but I still find speed very important. That extra movement can make the difference between getting a city or not, even more important than WC4 since we don't have paratroopers. Pulling your top general out of combat for one turn to replenish is OK. If it takes him two turns to get to the stable and two to get back into action, that's a lot more painful. I still like speed. Finally, you can give Belisarius the Golden Feather (and I intend to) for an OP, fast cav general, but imagine Belisarius together with the Commander and his aura buff.

Theron of Acragas, believe me, I do more than imagine. I have my commander as a strong infantry ready to help Beli crack cities and give him a buff. I just think infantry is stronger than Cav.

I love cavalry commanders. Hero Infantry commander is better for players with Hannibal imo. Otherwise definetely would go for Cavalry gen.

You mean you have the infantry commander with the cavalry aura buff? Does the buff still apply to the Commander himself if he's not cavalry?
