Before any new players start playing or when android is released, i want to let people know what is worth buying with real money and what to avoid so people are not disappointed. When deciding this, i looked at what you are get when you buy them and comparing this to f2p options. I included the princes in £ because i'm from the uk but it doesn't matter what currency you use, you will still know what is cheap or expensive.
The things you can buy are 6 IAP generals (richard, saladin, atilla, olga, charlemagne and arthur) and advanced proof of honour rewards.
I will first talk about the IAP generals. In general, each IAP general comes with their specific units which receive buffs from their unique items (all are free for IAP generals), some resources (e.g. medals, gold, recruitment scrolls etc) and a special privilege.
- Richard (£6.99, charge cav general): best general in the game in terms of points (highest cav points), skills (great active, 2 skills for charge cav, 1 skill for siege), highest title - emperor, best item in the game (crown - gives extra damage and cav points), best units in the game (templar knights, charge cav units in general are the best type of units as they counter melee infantry, other cavs and range units very well, their only weakness is counter infantry, can put this on other generals in legend missions e.g. basil or alfred), amazing privilege (50 medals a day), also comes with 2500 medals - great at the start when limited with medals. Out of everything you can buy, richard is the best value for money and should be prioritised even though he is the most expensive IAP. The 2nd best charge cav general is alfred, but the difference between richard and alfred is huge and having both is important anyway.
- Saladin (£2.49m range cav general): best range cav general in the game or joint best with genghis khan (free), good range points, has great active skill to boost damage, cav tactician skill (boost cav damage - not sure if applies on range cav, i think range tactician boosts), 2 terrain passives - good, has best range cav units (mamnluk archers), has great privilege (1+ starting general - in campaigns you can only spawn 1 general with premade units (special units like templar knights or mamluk archers which you can't spawn from castles) so this privilege increases number of spawns to 2), comes with 100000 gold - not too useful as you can farm gold from conquests. Overall, he is also worth it because he gets the best units and his privilege helps in campaign a lot. Also cheapest IAP. Genghis khan is a better general in terms of points and skills but his units are weaker
- Atilla (£4.49, range infantry general): probably best range general in the game (but edward the black prince is close), highest range points but skills overall are not amazing, his active is not very useful (plunder 50 coins), he has 1 range skill, recovers nearby moral (good) and terrain skill - boost damage. His units are not the best and edward has better units. his privilege is good (double starting resource in campaign) but not amazing like richard or saladin, comes with 200k gold - meh, 20 heraldy for upgrading general rank - can be farmed. For his price, and the fact you can get edward who does the same thing, or even genghis or saladin on range cav because range cav + range infantry counter same units, atilla is not worth it.
- Charlemagne (£5.99, melee cav general) best melee cav general in game (roland is f2p alternative), he has good cav points and a cav skill, his units knight hospitaller are great because they heal nearby 5% per round even though melee cav is the worst unit type because they only counter range cav (enemy doesn't spawn range cav in campaigns so no point), even though he is the best melee cav general, he has problems and is kind of a fail. He has higher melee points and a melee skill, so he is not specialised like the other IAP generals above. His privilege is same as saladin (great), he is emperor (great), he comes with 1200 medals - good. Overall, he is not worth it because he is more of an infantry/cav hybrid rather than pure cav and expensive. The only good thing is his privlege and his units (which you can farm for free when full game is released), don't need to get charlemagne.
- Arthur (£3.49, melee cav general): pretty much same as charlemagne (in terms of being infantry/cav hybrid) but worse points, worse units, worse privilege (7.5k gold a day), 100k gold - trash. Not much to say but to avoid.
- Olga (£2.49, melee infantry general): not good in terms of points and skills, better melee infantry options like harald or otto for f2p, bewolf (best melee infantry but costs proof of honour advanced rewards), bad privilege (7.5k gold a day), 100k gold - trash so avoid.
Proof of honour rewards: it's simply a battlepass. There is a free one and one you pay £12.99 for extra rewards. The more of the game you play (more quests you complete and more units you upgrade, the more rewards you get which includes generals (beowolf, cesar), unique items for other generals (belisarius, justinian, nur ad-din, frederick, edward 1), lots of gold, medals and resources for upgrading units or generals. I don't want to say too much about this so i will be brief. The 2 generals you get (cesar and beowolf are amazing). Beowolf is the best melee infantry on axemen - he is identical to harald (f2p) but he has special units + unique item for the 30% extra damage. Cesar is a great counter infantry/range hybrid general because he has good infantry and range points, a melee and range skill and his special units are good. You can use combination of counter infantry + range units on him because they both counter cav units, so infantry protects the range units. In terms of the unique items for the 5 generals, they are not worth it because those 5 generals are not the best in their speciality. There are f2p generals which have free unique items that are better than them. They give you lots of resources but you don't get them straight away, you unlock small amounts as you play (like a battlepass). Overall, you are spending £12.99 for beowolf and cesar - not worth it.
