Yellow: Legendary gens, should prioritise getting or upgrading.
Purple: Very good gens, can be used for very long but replaceable.
Green: Good but should not upgrade.
Blue: Has good qualities, can upgrade a little bit.
Orange: Usable but weak, should be replaced quickly.
Red: Bad, use for one campaign then move on.
Aetius: Very good infantry gen, should upgrade and will carry you to mid-end game.
Aiham: Budget Stilicho, usable for a while as replacement for Hermeric but should be replaced.
Athelfirith: Inf gen, bad skills, ok stats, usable but weak, get Adil I or Dihya to replace him.
Belisarius: Fantastic Cav-Inf general, great skills and starting stats, upgrade his cavarly and Infantry points.
Hermeric: Archer gen, ok skills, decent starting stats, however, quite weak, can be used until 4th campaign.
John the Armenian: Bad skills, decent stats, should not upgrade.
Lupicinus: Ok skills, decent stats, should be used as starting archer gen but should be replaced when you get to the 5 campaign.

Where is Ivar? I feel like we are overlooking that free general. Ivar have a good active skill “rage” and skills like master of assault with you can use as an axe infantry gen.. although his last skill snow commander is situational. Overall he is good but replaceable. But it is good to know that he is free and can be useful right? |

Ivar: Could be used as Second Infantry gen, if you have him, don't buy any bronze or silver gens, upgrade his infantry capabilities, he will not disappoint.

I used free gens alone, except for Alham whose campaign is too hard for now, and got as far as starting the Macedonian Dynasty series.
Tech for common campaign city troops is one upgrade (one bar).
John the Armenian, under rare and highly suitable conditions, can land critical hits around 300+. And at the start, if you are lacking in medals, he is an underwhelming cav gen that has some use. Undeniably on average, his best would be around 75-150 dmg under ideal conditions.
However, I consider Recruitment to be quite valuable in campaigns in which you are starved of resources. There are quite a few, in fact, and IIRC, many of them are speed-bump campaigns. If you need a hastily assembled garrison and Belisarius is unavailable, John is your average to underwhelming replacement.
Overall, I feel that he deserves a slightly better rating.
As for Aethelfirith, I don't pay attention to his skill, but his main redeeming quality is his active skill.

Wait, but where is Stilicho? I got him for free at the first missions and he looks like good archer general for me.
Also when you upgrade your free generals do you put all your available resources in it or upgrade only for get particular treshold, like, for example, reach Leutenant rank and stop there?

But how good is he in your scale? is he worth upgrading? And if so, should I upgade him to Leutenant rank for 3 soldier slots?

He is the best bronze archer Gen, very good, carried me for a while. Upgrade him to lieutenant, get the heavy crossbow or the quality short bow and give it to him (Rate as purple). If you have the money, get Theodoric I, a very good cav gen. (Budget Basil)

Aetius is very, very strong. He's the mainstay for every battle at the start. Especially you can order 3 unit cards from the beginning

honse ,Are you gonna do Premium/Generals ranked or review next?because that will help some player who are struggling what generals should they buy. i already made multiple guides on this, the most recent one is a f2p general pathway, but i made other guides explaining why harald and basil is strong, also roland but he isn't recommended for f2p at the start . the only premium general that you can get at this stage is alfred, all the others are locked and we don't know which of these premium generals will become iap and which are free so no point discussing them now, also they might change their stats once these generals are released. |

But again we need a Full gens Rank so that we can know how bad or how good the generals was why would you need to rank them? all the generals i recommend are strong, i don't recommend trash or average generals to buy, no point ranking those because no one will buy them. no point ranking premium generals because of the reasons i already gave |
