At level 4, 36% is added to the base 10%. If there is a terrain effect, plus another 5-10%. Total 56%. I saw how it works in the arena. When your Spartacus deals 50 damage to an enemy Spartacus in a trench and gets 300-500 damage in return. In my opinion OP. The only drawback then is that it is useless in AI-controlled battles, and in hero legend chapters we don't usually have enough resources to build it anyway. There is another significant minus in the legend - the impossibility of using did in the city where most of the important battles take place. In general, this is a last resort for the destruction of dangerous opponents. Especially good against powerful monsters in combination with holy damage.

This is the badges on my Hannibal. My Attila has similar badges, just with marshal guard and defence formation replacing praetor guard and riding master. I am unsure what to add as a 6th badge. Easytech did give the option to turn badges on and off so I think the 6th badge might be more of a "flex slot" that I use depending on the situation. Such as If level has volcanoes, use firefighter If level has enemies which can cause poison, use disease immune If level has naval combat, use warship modification. Defence in depth does look like a okay badge for general situations but I don't have much experience with using defence fortifications. Can anybody weight in with their experience with using this badge and how to best use it?

Above, me and the stoic discussed this. Did is a great tool against a powerful opponent (in the Pillars of Hercules finale, I easily destroyed Caesar with 5 squads and a laurel wreath with did). The only problem in the legend is the scarcity or complete lack of resources in some missions of the legend.

But as truhses and stoic mentioned hammers are quite limited in hero legend and they are usually better invested in units, city upgrades or even war gear. Furthermore, some of the more powerful monsters can ignore defensive structures.
The situation when I found DiD the most "useful" was in arena, when a legionary (passive: double terrain effect) stood on an anit-cav structure and took minimal damage while killing my last remaining horses. I'm not sure he had DiD but it was down to 3 vs 1 and I still lost. So, infantry generals (especially legionary such as our infCommander, Pompey, Crassus, Aetius, Labienus and Agrippa), which have to hold a certain area can be a little better at using DiD and it could be the inf counterpart to Riding master and Defence formation. Of course, arena is controlled by stupid AI, so...
I suppose we have more spare hammers in the hell conquest. Don't know about Epic war yet, would you say it's viable there?

There is some more viability there. In epic war we are unable to build new units or replenish existing units, so we can more freely use the hammers.

I gave my DID badges to Attila first. Gave him priority due to the importance for archers to avoid damage. I had made use of it in some situation. I captured two of them below. Attila also had defence formation which also reduced the damage from the enemy infantry. Against Phraates with reduced morale, Attila took 34 damage. Against a Ancient Giant, Attila took 103 damage. As a comparison, a javelineer without these badges and fortification took 297 damage. I feel like DID made me more comfortable with using Attila more aggressively and survivability.

Fully upgraded DiD adds +36% to the 10% of defensive structures.
-a legionary can have 2*10+10+36=66% damage reduction when on corresponding terrain. -everybody else can still reach 10+10+36=56% when on favorable terrain -or 10+36=46% just from trench/fence/breastwork
Not bad if facing hordes of terracotta warriors *hint hint epic war chapter 2*
elite guards, orc spearwielder, goblin and minotaur can "ignore terrain effect" when attacking. Is it just the terrain part or everything?

Is it just the terrain part or everything? I was able to test this here in the last level of the destruction of Pompeii. Attila getting hit by a goblin without the trench and with a trench. From the damage values, the ignore terrain effect doesn't include the defensive structures.
