1. New Free Rewards
First week login reward: this greatly reduces the difficulty of the Guderian hunt. Beginners are now highly recommended to NOT purchase any general before they collect all the rewards and try to keep on going with just Sansonetti.
Daily gift: honestly though the daily gift just a nice treat, but not anything game changing. To beat the game, you still need to do some intensive farming.
Android players now have access to the battle pass, which gives 1k medals in total after reaching level 80. This offer is especially generous in early game, when you are trying to squeeze out every medal for Guderian.
2. New Tech
Infantry, Artillery, Tank, Navy, Air Force, and Supply all get 4 new levels. The first 4 units get +7 attack and +4 movement. Air force gets +1 range and +16 shield penetration. Supply gets +4 HP per turn in cities.
Infantry: commandos benefit the most in this update, as they are now able to move 4 grids. This doesn't impact the units produced in cities as much but certainly matters for paratrooping. Goring can move 6 grids on MI.
Tank: super tanks can now move 4 grids. Patton and Rommel can move 5 grids on super tank.
Artillery: field artilleries can now move 3 grids. Govorov can move 4 grids on rocket artillery. Konev can move 4 grids on field artillery.
Navy: nothing special for normal units, but the generals got impacted the most. Since there aren't many relevant damage skills for navy, this patch has a greater impact on navy relative to the other 3 units. Nimitz replaces Donitz to be the best academy admiral (yet I still don't recommend him because of his price).
Air Force: keeping PMI forever is now a thing of the past, but I highly recommend upgrading infantry tech to level 13 (mobility +1) first so that your commando can move 3 grids.
Supply: doesn't matter.
3. Sansonetti
I'm dedicating a section just to Sansonetti, because his introduction as a quality free general is absolutely revolutionary.
As a land general, Sansonetti is basically Student, who I adored. Sansonetti makes the previous Ozawa-Greim debate pointless by overwhelming both of them. He will save a precious amount of 550 medals on a beginner's journey to Guderian. Although his expertise on land is infantry, his 1 artillery star means he can still be used like Ozawa on land, if the situation demands so. For endgame, Sansonetti's Colonel rank might need some upgrades (feedback required), but his damage as an infantry is definitely good enough. Recall that before this update, Konev-Goring is the common lineup for infantry; while Sansonetti is a bit off from Konev, he can certainly replace Goring in this pair. This doesn't mean Goring has become obsolete: the fifth star still makes quite a difference, and the new update allows Goring to move as fast as Arnold on MI and carrier. However, Sansonetti's presence still severely hampers Goring's necessity, since one of his main selling points in previous versions, his ability on infantry, is not as advantageous as before.
As an admiral, Sansonetti's entrance is essentially an earthquake. Sansonetti's speed gives him entrance to the Fast Boy's Club, previously only having Eisenhower, Donitz, Yamamoto, and Halsey as its members. On battleship, Sansonetti's damage output is even superior to Yamamoto and Halsey, two of the most popular admirals in previous versions, thanks to his Explosives. Given his price, Sansonetti should be the undisputed first choice for navy. While Halsey can still find his place as the cheapest general with 5 stars air force, Yamamoto now has to signal his departure from the first team as his main role has been overtaken by Sansonetti for a much cheaper price.
4. IAPs
Erich von Manstein : one of the best generals in the game and the best perpetual privilege. Enough said.
Zhukov: even though his quality as a general isn't great, his privilege is great for players struggling in campaigns. If you are to get a second IAP general just to beat the game, then Zhukov can perhaps surpass Eisenhower.
Eisenhower: Sansonetti, being his lite version, still hurts him. However, his privilege is a blessing for conquest lovers.
Hoth: his infantry ability is unquestionable, and his tank ability, although not as good as Rommel and Vatutin based on the current feedbacks, is still good enough for early-mid game. If you are just aiming for endgame quality, then he's not very ideal. However, if you are on a small budget (can't afford Elite Pass) and want to make your life easier during early days, then Hoth is your man. I mean come on he's much cheaper than everyone else.
Marshall-Juliusz: Marshall is a great infantry general. He is the only general in this update (if the leak is correct) that can compete for the title of "Best of His Kind." With his superb survivability and one damage-related skill, he overtakes Mannerheim's role in the realm of infantry. His artillery ability, though nowhere close to endgame material, is good enough for early game. Juliusz, on the other hand, is pretty mediocre. He is overall worse Timoshenko, who doesn't stand out either. If Marshall is alone with a cheaper price, then he might be worth it. However, Juliusz has dragged down the cost-efficiency of this pack. For a similar budget, I'd recommend Hoth and a monthly membership ($8 in total) instead.
Balck-Nenonen: Balck is worse Rommel. The only advantage he has is being able to move 4 grids on super tank without any movement upgrades. Nenonen is Badoglio with 1 extra movement and Street Fighting instead of Explosives. To get the best out of Nenonen you have to put him on a different front than Patton's, otherwise he'll just be worse Bai. I'm not too optimistic right now but maybe the user experience will show otherwise. As an early-mid game pack, Balck-Nenonen will perform better than Marshall-Juliusz. Their endgame quality needs more testing. Overall, I still recommend Hoth + monthly membership.
Elite Pass (for Android): one of the best price-performers. Elite Pass alone is enough to supply 3 generals with 3k price tag.
Monthly membership: 3500 medals for $5. Nowhere close to Elite Pass but if you still want to buy medals, you have no better alternatives cost-efficiency wise.
