I’ve had WQ4 for over a year. I’ve played the game to death although I’ve yet to finish the modern-war scenarios. I’ve spent at least 100 dollars on the game (like the idiot I am), and I figured I could get some feedback on my Generals. I’m already in the process of upgrading their skills, so no worries there Patton? He's trash to say the very least. Sell him to get Rommel (PL and Rumour) if you want. As a matter of potential, Nagumo doesn't have it. Nimitz is superior in that category. But you have Donitz, so no worries. This is minor, Nagumo is the 3rd best admiral anyways. Guderian's Machinist is trash. Swap it for Explosives for cities and forts. Swap Crossfire for Rumour, as you shouldn't burn a slot on it. Slap the Cross Medal on him instead of Patton. Swap Konev's Machinist for Explosives. If you just want a new general, Rommel is the guy you want. 2nd best Panzer general in the game.

The major things that I would do are to get Rommel/Montgomery/Rokossovsky/Graziani, swap Guderian's Crossfire for Rumor, swap Konev's Machinist for Plain Fighting, and I think that's the best you can do if you don't want to throw thousands of invested medals down the drain.

Mountbatten > Nimitz > Nagumo 2. +300 hp for a 20 turn scenario is by no means trash. 3. I'd argue that Crowd Tactics is a better choice than explosives.

Why PF when you can have CT? It really depends. If your main purpose for Konev is to debuff powerful enemies, CT is better. If his job is to defeat powerful enemies, then PF accomplishes that better.

haha I also have Patton but as a 4th tank to sit in important cities and buy me a few turns while the other generals are busy destroying stuff. Still not sure if I should regret it because in the long run, Montgomery +800 medals is probably better. Also, I've come to appreciate Crossfire (% based buffs are better than flat increases in end game), but we need at least a heavy tank to make it useful and Monty and Rommel have it so Guderian should have something else. Machinist: I tried Graziani for a while but it's just not enough; rank upgrade are just so much better (again in favor of % based, if you have 1000 HP or more) CT vs PF (vs Explosives): I have CT on Konev but that's historic because I used him as inf general for invasions before Yamashita with new medal was a thing. Now I'm used to work with it and typically, at least 2 units profit from it, 4 when focusing down forts. So that is more than PF which needs plain tiles that give no defense boosts and only 1x +30. Besides, Leeb has PF already. Explosives would mean to lose a lot of potential damage on units, hard to tell how it would fare compared to CT. And yeah, team Nimitz&Donitz, initial rank, stars and price make him cost effective and slots give him the most potential.

One level of machinist is 3hp per turn in a 20 turn scenario that's 60 hp. A triple stacked HT has <600 hp without a general. A rank upgrade is +7% base hp - that's <0.07 × 600 = 42 hp. You get +10% for purple title though, but that's 500 medals. So, in my opinion Machinist is definitely a cheaper and better option for extra health. Of course Blitzkrieg is better than both.

On Guderian? No. Guderian's job is to eviscerate every unit in existance, with Blitz and Rumour, unless he gets nuked, he'll live for a bit. On arty it's pretty meh, if an arty takes a hit it's pretty much dead or at the very least crippled. Plus, who's to say that you won't die at the 10th turn? 3. On Konev? No. On Timoshenko? Sure, it's already there.

Konev must always be near other units and you don't want him to be taking hits. If he's near 2 units, that'll be +60 total damage.

6Johnny23, about Mountbatten > Nimitz: Depot Ship > Camouflage - if camouflage was better, you'd have to be taking 50 AF damage per turn. That's generally not realistic in many cases. Ace Forces is quite useless because: 1. In many cases your ships already have XP. 2. Getting more max HP a bit earlier doesn't help. Both aren't enough firepower for endgame unless you invest an obscure amount of medals. For end game firepower Dönitz is simply the best, not only in potential but also in cost efficiency. For a second admiral Mountbatter with better survivability is a better choice - imo.

6Johnny23, Why is Patton bad? And better yet, how is Rommel better? Rommel has worse mobility, which is what I look out for in a tank Gen. Besides, the game literally won’t let me sell Patton. The “dismiss” button is grayed out—I think it might have to do with a limit on medals that I have dedicated to him, but I’m not sure. I would also consider selling Nagumo for a better general, but I can’t as well. I put Machinist on Guderian because he has a medal for machinist boosting. I might swap it. Crossfire is handy for situations when he’s ganged up on by large amounts of enemies, which happens often. The boosting in counterattack damage can be huge sometimes.

No. 300 HP for a ship is not 300 HP for arty, tanks, or inf. 300 HP for a 1000+ HP beast is not very much. 2. a) If a unit is in chaos, it can't damage you, and if you take 0 damage, Machinist is useless. b) 150 HP is 1 more hit from a good general, or 5 or something hits from a regular unit. Machinist is gonna burn off quickly. Even if you are lucky and you get the 300 damage in 20 turns, Blitz and Rumour are better for survivability, beating Machinist by miles (or kilometers). 3. There are simply better skills. Explosives, PF, JF. Plus, Konev is not a support general, Timoshenko is. You will want CT on a fast general like Timoshenko

If there were only 3 slots for a general, I would take Mountbatten in a heartbeat. AF and Camo are mostly useless. But Depot isn't much better. Sailor and FL + 1 slot is worse than FL + 2 slots, Sailor isn't the best. Nimitz's original skillset is exceptionally pathetic barring FL.

I firmly agree that crossfire is amazing. Most people dislike Patton because none of his skills are top-notch endgame material. Thus, he is stuck with 3 less than amazing skills, something that his stars often cannot make up for. Granted, his skills can still be used (with the exception of Camouflage), and he has two empty slots, amazing stars, and good rank, but it is more a matter of missing out on investing in a better general. For you, I would still keep Patton as right now he is very strong and you would lose thousands of medals if you trade him out. Rommel is great for three reasons: price, six stars, and having Armoured Assault and Crossfire.
