Antonio Luna, I tried the American speed run tonight. It took me 35 turns, which was nowhere near enough (though if I didn't have Kate already, this would have got her for sure). On the other hand, I set a new personal record for finishing any conquest, and I know where I made some silly mistakes. I used Dumouriez on cavalry because I wasn't sure Sakurako could stand up to Barclay and because she really isn't trained up enough yet (especially in health and nobility). I also probably could have used war horse on Isabella a bit. I have a grind that will be useful for toughening Sakurako up, and I will be cycling through my academy looking for Agha to train her on cavalry. Also, a couple more conquests for practice & medal grinding, and then it will be time to regroup Carteaux into Isabella. I have the button ready to push, and the preview tells me this will boost her to 98/8 if I do it right now (she is currently 54/4). I could have used save/load to greater effect for Brock's Assault Art, and I should have spammed grenadiers and artillery to deal with the northern forts better. I also should have switched the +6 powder around more efficiently. Sophia got rather badly mauled dealing with some French generals after she'd blown Hull away (that part was easy) and I had to pull her back, so maybe a few medikits would be a good idea here; I certainly have enough medals for them!! On the other hand, she used the recovery time and her 10x nobility to heal up, and she did great slaughter in the American rear lines. I also had a lot of trouble with Verhuell, and the Hessians never did conquer Yorktown despite me blowing the defenders away and leaving the city vacant twice. All these were things I could have done better, but at least now I know there is room for improvement and I know what not to do next time. And this is the first time I've ever played America 1812, so all things considered I figure 35 turns is a good practice run. To quote some poor bl00dy infantryman after the Battle of Loos in 1915: "We did not know what it was going to be like. Next time we will do better."

Every messed up conquest is an opportunity to do better. The more you fail, the more you get to adjust your strategy. You become familiar about how the enemy moves, so you can easily react to the changing circumstances. By the way, Isabella does not need the war horse because she has the innate Geography skill. And as for Sophia, she must hit without getting hit unless she is stationed as a garrison on Fort Dearborn. Use cheap forts to distract the enemy generals.

I am ready to have another shot at this; Sakurako has received 2 more cavalry stars, is 110/7 after intense combat rank/medal grinding (equal in rank to Dumouriez, though not nobility), and I think she's ready to rock in the big league. Plus I'm pretty sure I added the +6 artillery item since then (and I will be grinding towards another one) and I now also have a 6+ tent. I am in any case getting sick of HRE 1798; I keep on failing at it for some reason I can't work out, either time or resources or both, so having a few more shots at this one seems like the best thing to do.
Is it possible to get Victoria in a US conquest, or do I have to go back to HRE for that one?

However, 1798 is the MOST OPTIMAL conquest to get princesses, that does not mean playing other European conquests are IMPOSSIBLE to obtain princesses, it's just much harder compared to HRE 1798. Lan, on the other hand, can be won through America 1812 or 1775 by pressing "Challenge Asia" at the end. If I recall correctly, pathdoc recommended 1812 & made a guide for it.

Nobunaga Oda, I think you meant to quote Antonio Luna. Most optimal it may be, but I am getting somewhat burned out by trying HRE 1798 and failing over and over. I had a really good game to get Isabella and Sakurako, with everything going right, and even then I only got Isabella by the skin of my teeth (the enemy AI did everything wrong, while the "friendly" AI did everything right including Nelson giving me intensive fire support on the Ottoman coast). I will try to get Lan in America by challenging Asia (or at least complete a game fast enough to get her once I win more campaign stars), and once I get her I will probably be ready to have a go at HRE'98 again.
