The new update is out and it looks amazing. The new trails have locked slot so you are not (totally) free to choose which general to deploy, those modes obviously force you to develop underrated or forgotten general of the game bringing finally a fresh wind to the plot, and my castle boredom disappear.
Patrass: Alexander, Hannibal, Saladin, Spartacus, Caesar, Belisarius
Kazan: Peter, Barbarossa,Henry
Isle of Man: king Arthur, Wallace
So at this point all the discussion about "which general should I develop" disappear because if the first trail force you to deploy 2/3 almost of the generals now this mode force you to use the 100% of them, and nobody is left behind.
Actually I'm very excited because I feel like have a motivation of using general that in normal mode I will never had the opportunity to join anything, and never have place in the game

What happens if you don't have one of "locked" generals? Do you have free slot instead?

And if you have none of the required generals, you don't play at all. Sometimes there is a slot where you can put any general, though. |

Every mission can change the required generals. For Isle of Man: 1. Arthur, Wallace + free slot 2. Arthur, Wallace, Robin Hood, Charlemagne, Cleopatra. 3. Nappleon, Joan of Arc, Edward + free slot 4. Napoleon, Joan, Charlemagne, Richard, Cleopatra 5. Napoleon, Joan, Richard, Nelson, Petain +free slot 6. I don't know yet So most of the generals in the game might end up being required in some mission, I fear |

I don't know yet Mission 5 is where it starts to become difficult; before that, low levels can be compensated with equipment.   |

If someone is, for example, a f2p player and it happens he doesn't have Charlemagne (very probable) and Richard (quite probable) - then he will have serious problems with completing stage 4 even if he is an endgame player. |

You have to split them in 4 mini teams and my generals aren't durable enough. (Conrad?!? Lol) I did the first 3 missions for all 3 locations and they are relatively easy (still necessary someone to clear the spam). The 4th missions start to be more difficult, and at the 5th you need to have all required generals at a high level. I had 34 thousand medals and I've already spent 20 thousand to upgrade them... now I need to have them gain xp in Cagliari and with daily missions |

All fodders generals will need to be at least level 60 or more to pass trial 5 (For Kazan at least). In case you miss, you can summon Maria by buying her jewelry in market at castle for 1k iron. You can buy 100 purple coins for 600 iron. It take about 2.5K medals and 435 purple coins to level up Maria's Jewelry to level 7. By progression, Max Jewelry level is at level 10 and princess will be level 70. Their stats are mediocre though, but at least you have extra generals. You need to equip Jewelry in the slots where you equip badge. Then you can summon princess during battle.   |

My suspicion they will add more trials eventually. It may be entertaining but it is a real pain for players who restarted the game only recently like Iron Duke or myself. I really don't know at the moment how to plan my expenditures... They say: "we'll cross that bridge when we come to it", but I am still unsure about how to come to it  |

They say: "we'll cross that bridge when we come to it", but I am still unsure about how to come to it Agreed, in fact I've said it elsewhere but I'll say it here too for the official record: I really don't know if I'll complete the whole thing in this run and I'm not committing to it. My aim is to do all of the usual game plus hard mode campaigns and one unit trail. The other 3 unit trails, princess trails and Paris are minor considerations in my book and potentially could take months to complete after you've done everything else. I saw blueberry say he's already spent 20k medals upgrading some generals for the princess trails and he & jonblend are probably better judges than you and I on how much time and effort it takes to complete the 4 unit trails in a normal game; I've done them of course but with the considerable advantage of already having every single non-IAP general upgraded  |
