The Viet Minh declares the independence of the United Democratic Republic of Tonkin, Annam, and Laos. War is formally declared on the State of Vietnam, Kingdom of Laos, Kingdom of Cambodia, and the Republic of France. The UDRTAL expects that other countries recognise its independence. As the Soviet Union, and the WTO led by us, we're proud to hear that our comrades in Vietnam have managed to gain their indepedence against the imperialist forces. We're also proud to be the first to hereby recognize their indepedence. Let the bourgeoisie tremble at a socialist revolution throughout the world. May this be the first spark of the new world order, of the humanity united under the flag of socialism. Workers of the world, unite! |

Situation before this battle The enemy resist well, but due to smaller numbers they are forced back to Vientinae. The city is beskeged by 80,000 troops while 100,000 troops mount an offensive into north Vietnam. Meanwhile 100,000 troops in Laos mount an offensive southwards and 50,000 guerillas in southern Vietnam and Cambodia attempt to connect and form a unified front. jfyPg7DZ·· |

Luxembourg begins the recruitment of civilians into military service. Citizens will serve for 5 years beginning at the age of 20 before retiring, and will be recalled if necessary.
The government of Luxembourg is extremely concerned with the breakout of warfare in Indochina. While we remain officially neutral in the conflict we urge all global parties involved (the US, France, the USSR, and the PRC) to attempt a diplomatic solution. If the people of Vietnam do not receive a fair deal, it is probable that conflict will continue to occur in the future.
Luxembourg is also disappointed with the lack of diplomatic concessions made after WWII. Our claims for independence after WWI were repeatedly quashed by the French and the Belgians, and much of our meager territory was annexed to Belgium. Despite having the largest casualty toll as a percentage of our total population in Western Europe, we have not received much in return. We do however thank the United States for their financial assistance in the Marshall Plan.

The March on Visby
A Communist group in Gotland has launched a massive rally in Visby which is meant to protest the formation of the Anti-Communist League. Some of the protesters were armed, and a fight broke out between the protestors and police leaving several protestors injured and a police officer named Glenn Renberg dead. Renberg is now a martyr for anti-communists.
