I have returned to the game after a bit of an hiatus and noticed a lot of new Mercenary troops. What has changed in regard to the units we want to be grinding. I was working on IBC and JBC before and I'm now wondering wether to pivot to more influencial units. These units appealed to me before because they were so useful on all types of legions and not depended on a specific general.
Thanks for the help.

IBC and JBC are still excellent units that you should continue to strengthen. As for the new units, none of them are game changers, so you don't need to upgrade them unless you want to have a strong unique unit for the corresponding General. You should pay attention to the Talent Troop system, it will guide you a lot on which units you want to upgrade

There are several aspects that can be important - costs (incl 30 for initally opening the unit)
-- Upgrading up to Level 6 costs 64 fragments
-- Upgrading up to Level 12 costs 184 fragments
-- Upgrading up to Level 20 costs 484 fragments (raidable really helps to get here, at least for F2P)
- power
-- raw stats -- skills and talents -- gems
Melee Infantry - Hengdao (stats + talent (15% healing) - cheap alternative: Varangian Guards (stats + charge + you get fragments for gold in the campaign shop)
Defense Infrantry - Modao (stats + talent (12% decrease damage) - cheap alternative 1: Heavy Phalanx (you get fragments for gold in the campaign shop) - cheap alternative 2: Lombardy Halberdiers (easier to buy. Warning: accumulated point talent does not seem to work here) + gems for damage increase are a nice combination
Melee Cavalry - Knights of the Garter (stats + talent (up to 60% damage increase) + nice gem combination + often needed in campaigns).
- cheap alternative: probably War Axe cavalry
Charging Cavalry - Knights templar (great stats + talent + Aura
- JBC (stats + skill/talent + gem combination + speed + raidable)
- cheap alternative: Noble Cavalry (decent stats + you get fragments for gold in the campaign shop)
Ranged Infantry - Dragoon (stats + skill/talent) - cheap alternative: woad raider (speed + you get fragments for gold in the campaign shop
Ranged Cavalry - Imperial Bow Cavalry (stats + skill +raidable) - Mongolian Raiders (skill +raidable + best gem combination) - no cheap alternative

hearing this the first time: what part of: accumulated points doesnt work... are you referring to? All levels? A specific one? And have you tested it?

Defense Infantry: Add 20 points: Defense Infantry without shield Attack +20
When you get to that point, Lombardy Helberdiers stay unchanged, Scottish Long Spearman show increase in stats (can show with Screenshots)

And its 25 atk points. What game version are you on. Are you on 2.2.5? Or rather how old is the screenshot maybe it was only those first few days before the patch or sth. Checked with general deployed and without general in 100yw II battle of montargis. 193-231 turns to 218-256 atk. (Lvl 20, max talent. 20 accumulative points = +25)

Does HengDao's talent (15% healing) affect all the legion or only HengDao?

Does HengDao's talent (15% healing) affect all the legion or only HengDao? Well, it has a "legion effect", hasn't it?

I'm introducing Knights of the Garter to my melee cavalry generals. But first, I want to know if I should replace Sepulchre or Black Armored Guards

But first, I want to know if I should replace Sepulchre or Black Armored Guards If you have to choose keep BAG, they are statwise great and attack again is op. Of course all these 3 shine in unison. Also depends on lvl of units, how high your talents are and whether its baldwin who should have sepulchre...

I think priority should be given to Hosp because of the talent... so useful on campaign, conquest, even hero legend or treasure
