Based on what little I know, ET could go as far back as the Genpei War which occurred during the 1180s. The title of "ShΕgun" as a hereditary title with powers over the nation, and the creation of the first shogunate occurred at the end of this war.
Of course, before it was used this way like how "Caesar" seemingly became associated with being the emperor of European empires, it seemed to be a title of honor bestowed upon important war heroes for acts of merit and success.
Perhaps we could get a lot out of this?

I can see it
Takeda Shingen is the best for Cavalry, Nobunaga for ranged units, Hideyoshi is the infantry, Ieyasu is the consul,and Yi Sun Shin is the navy guy
All IAP... Shame

I wonder who is gonna be worth $100. It's pretty much guarantee that there's gonna be PoH. They've been implementing that into all most of their games.

It's actually not fair to say that one general is worth 100 dollars (in this case Mehmed the Conqueror), because with the General you also get tons of medals, which are the most important resource in this game and which allow you to also buy tons of other resources or Generals and make your team and units will be significantly stronger. |

I guess that's a fair assessment. But I still think that the paywall is too high to get the general. I prefer it if I can get generals individually rather than paying for a bunch of other stuff that comes with said general. What if I only wanted to pay for Mehmed and nothing else? I get that some of the other generals also come in bundles but not to the extent that the medal accumulation requires.

It is bonus general for IAP purchases, not pay-general They specifically try to stimulate Your spendings. In case they would like to sell Mehmed they would. But it wasnβt the idea. Nothing personal just businessβ¦ |

Nobody cares. Only they care about their business. That is exactly why they do this. They do not sell the game - it is distributed for free. |
