It's common knowledge in China. If you are talking about Manchuria, 1931. Edit: I was suddenly illiterate.

Yep People say its 1939 because they know more about the european than the pacific part but John Greene said it Actually started 1931 with the invasion of Manchuria or at earliest 1935 with the invasion of China because they didnt stop fighting until 1945 I went with that theory and agree with him

As these wars are very intertwined, you can't really tell which war is which. It's all about the definition of the 2nd Sino-Japanese war and WW2. Also, it's 1937, not 1935. 1931 was Mudken (now Shengyang, Liaoning province) incident; 1937 was Marco Polo Bridge or Lugouqiao in Beijing.

But you can say the war started with anschluss of austrua or czechoslavakia

You know about Mudken also, no? Well when I watched the episode he said 1931 and 1935 and from HOI 4 I know about the Marci Polo Bridge incident 35 can be considered, but there was still appeasement, no war. 37 would be the official start of 2nd sino Japanese war. HOI 4? Mudken is more important to me, as without Mudken the doors of China would'nt be open. Also, the Japanese may have went Sybir instead, but invading south was proposed by the more influential navy.
