You have 4 slots, right? I like to have, when with 4 slots: Lan (Cav) Isabela (Art) Sophia (Art, also Inf/Nav) One more. Since Golitsyn has 5* and Berthier has 1, I pick Golitsyn. If you don't really like Artillery, you can have Lan (Cav, also Navy) Isabela (Art) Berthier (Cav, also Art) Dobeln (Inf) I like the former better, since it has a fort cracker and 2 artillery mains, but the latter is valid I wanted to play with 4 slots and your first suggestion was more or less what I was going for. So I started with Dumouriez, Kutaisov, Sophia and Arnold. When I got Isabella after my first HRE 30 turn attempt I realised I have to fully upgrade everyone before I fill the last slot which is to much grinding at one time for me. I prefer to get the medals throgh campaign progress and whenever I miss about 100 for the next trainer or item I grind. Furthermore, playing with 5 slots gives so much more options. Last weekend I achieved Lan and Victoria, got my 6th slot. I want to use Lan and Victoria because I'm able to and keep Isabella+Sophia. Arnold is still there as my merchant. He usually stays in a lv6 or lv7 city with Napoleonic Code (Arnie WAS elected to read - for the Simpsons fans). He has not much combat value but if I got Berthier it would be a shame to put him in a city all the time.. Until now, I used Diez as support for Dumouriez since he can move 5 hexes (light cavalry with items) which is good for flanking enemy units. A Berthier with range of 6 hexes fills this role even better. But if I kept Arnold I would need another slot to train the other generals. Ahh!! so complicated

Berethier has AWESOME skills but he needs A lot of trainers, Golitsyn is just decent and doesnt need trainers Move trainers? Golitsyn and Berethier are Almost the same in skills, Berethier has Geography but 4 Aghas thats too much and costly. Golitsyn is way better even without Trainers that he doesnt need except in mobility

When talking about Golitsyn and Berthier, you are talking about Quality and Efficiency of Investment. Bigger investment lead better quality but sometime it's not worth. The advantage of Berthier when maxed is Train stars and Geography. The train stars is good but it depend on your playing style, if you are eager to pay for medikit you can ignore the train stars. About the Geography, you use both of Golitsyn and Berthier in Cavalry, so the difference between with and w/o Geography only show when they control Light Cavalry (Full move Stars and full suitable equipments, it's rarely happened because L.Cav is not worth to deploy the Gen. As my opinion, Cav Gen should get max stars in Trade, because it's helpful when Cav Gen take a Trade City (It's often happened), you can immediately exchange resources in that turn. IMO, best Cav Gen should have (don't count the skills) max stars in Cav, Move and Trade. Berther needs : 4 Cav , 4 Move and 1 Trade trainers to reach that. Golitsyn needs: 0 Cav , 2 Move and 4 Trade trainers to reach that. Golitsyn need less to reach best stars for Cav if you need Trade and the gap becomes bigger if you don't need Trade (You have other Cav Gen with max trade stars as Lan) My conclusion: If you want a good Investment, go for Golitsyn. But if you want best free (Don't count Princesses) Cav Gen and eager to farm medal, go for Berthier (Want the Best and Ignore the Cost). My private choice is Berthier. And now he becomes

You can get a war horse , that gives you Geography to Golitsyn after that you get make the war horse go into the Item Menu and then you can give him battle items

You can get a war horse , that gives you Geography to Golitsyn after that you get make the war horse go into the Item Menu and then you can give him battle items It takes up item space though. Item space is the smallest problem. You movr take out the horse and movement item then you put damage items and over and over
