I chose Berthier and so far he has done quite well. I used him on artillery in Patriotic War and on heavy cav in Sorched Earth. Decent damage but I guess that's mostly due to russian cavalry units being stronger. Golitsyn was also in these missions as a default general and he rocks with 5 cavalry stars.
