I'm in the Empire age while Rome just reached Medieval. Yet I still feel like I can't fight any of the stronger countries like Huns, Persia, and Carthage...

Ok. Tavern generals are officially the greatest thing since bread. I went from being afraid of everything to dominating every battle. I now own 48 cities and about to upgrade to discovery age

I mean seriously, I have two catapult tavern generals. Both have over 1k hp and deal 500 damage to fortifications. 3 hex range. I'm taking capitals in 7 rounds and one shorting ballista towers. Its amazing
Oh and they are in the same set of units.

Now that's pure epic... Sometimes I just keep my artilleriesin the back, not even using them during a battle. Using the blind spot in front of enemy towers, I was able to rush an infantry general to sit in a spot that no towers could reach me and peck at the tower. That's what I did. Utter and absolute crushing in last 10 turns in a row, either by rain of death from 2 cats and 2 artys or ninja sneak attack!!

My conquest isn't going to last until then as its now only me and the great Roman Empire. Although I have 75 cities while they have 20 something so it'll be over pretty quickly

I had to reconquer the Romans 3 times already. That Caesar is subborn, and I wished I used tavern generals earlier. I brought my first two just before I entered the 4th age, and grabbed the rest during that (except for the cannons which I just added to get rid of the two slow normal units). It's definitely fun running around with a full 6 generals team. They're speed demons, man!

I'm in the Empire age while Rome just reached Medieval. Yet I still feel like I can't fight any of the stronger countries like Huns, Persia, and Carthage... I really can't follow the fear for other countries.. not only you but also others in here and in ew5 board talking about very harsh conquests.. but even with persia in empire modus (hardest 1 there is for now), I know in 16 turns that i will win in the end. As long as you use the first 5-20 rounds to get the most cities and build ip defending armies on strongholds you only need to use 2 fronts to increase your income and the rest can defend. Age updates are quicker then others and then after a while you get the strong generals use 2-3 at a new front and you go on and on and on.... Are there specific things I can help you with?

Singlemalt, I think it's not the fear of being defeated by the other countries (the AI) but by defeat of one's own failures. I can understand the feeling of fearing a setback in a conquest against the AI. Sometimes I get into the mood of playing perfectionist because after all, the AI is just a dumb AI. So it's like I'm playing against my fears. I can fall into that mode especially when playing Easytech games. I play way too safe and defensive when I am in that mood. Is that sorta similar for you, Mountbatten?
