So I went to my first in person history class today. The teacher tells how the reason the Roman Catholic church tried to save Roman Knowledge was because they and the elites wanted to control what books were allowed They ask if anyone knows why the Church thought it was their task to save knowledge. I point out that the Roman Catholics were the ruling religion and people of Rome, so they probably thought it was their knowledge to save. Despite the slide behind her saying they wanted to save the knowledge from the destruction of roman cities, she decides to add my point into hers, saying that indeed they wanted to control and limit. BTW, I understand if this is Political, but I have to mention that in an impressive example of how she is an impartial teacher that does not indoctrinate, she compares modern-day politicians to Hitler. ugh, I don't know if I can do this course.

It might be fun to point out the inaccuracies your teacher will bring up, after all. Depending... an "impartial" teacher might deliberately give you bad grades because she doesn't like you. It does happens in some classrooms even though it shouldn't. Duck and keep a low profile is an alternative strategy.

When I was in class four, one day while having a science class my teacher wrote "manta lays" instead of manta "rays". Still can't forget it

Yeah, could be. I don't know if I will get any opportunities to speak out, we shall see. I said to her after class, that I found this statement weird: "In spite of the many advancements made in Asia, many scholars recognize Gutenberg as the father of the printing press" I said how its true the Asians had to invent paper first, but surely his machine was so unique that it was his invention? I used the bad analogy of saying Thomas Edison invented the lightbulb, because it has been brought up before that others were working on the lightbulb. There is a much bigger gulf between Gutenbergs machine and Asia, than Edison and his lightbulb ancestors. BTW, We are going to learn about how the telescope challenged the church and how Airplanes are for the wealthy. This one Muslim kid asked if not accepting the printing press helped kill the Ottoman Empire. He is my hero now

"The Church"
SMH... that is so messed up. The Roman Catholic Church doesn't applies to EVERY Christian church.
(even before the Reformation, the Catholics were busy whacking down MANY people who disagreed or weren't even necessarily members of the Catholic body in the first place)
Sad how it's so popular and politically correct to bash an entire religion because of the Papacy.

Indeed. I just checked the info sheet to make sure i'm not lying to you guys. It literally states the church, not to mention any verbal usage. Bashing the Papacy makes sense, when you compare it to bashing all of Christianity for the WBC, which has like 60 members who probably don't have much money either (sorry if that statement is not allowed) One Serbian kid said something about the Eastern Orthodox. 30 minutes later she gets to the Reformation, and states about how the Christians were divided into 2 groups. I told her after class how the Eastern orthodox already split off. Im pretty sure she said the Catholics are going to split again. Not in the past, in the future.

I guess Gutenberg invented the printing press, but the Koreans used a similar type of printing, 200 years before.

Then, Yi Sun Sin, You should be more annoyed with her than me. She actually taught us that printing was invented in Asia (remember, I objected to what I saw as her diminishing Gutenberg by insinuating that the Asians were the true inventors) She covered Wood-block, movable type, and paper. Where did she list all these coming from, may you ask? CHINA. Ok, to be fair she mentioned Korea at one point, but that was after all her other notes only mentioning China. Searching it up, Im not sure who got to it first, though I had assumed Movable type was invented by Korea. In any case, I recognize that Without asian inventions, the Printing press was impossible. I however, object to any attempt to take credit for Gutenberg's Printing press away from Gutenberg. He invented it, himself.

To continue.... Then the invention of Guttenberg is actually even more so of an invention. More than it sounded at first.
Here's why... the Far East Asian languages (as a rule of thumb) writes in characters which represents a word by word process. So movable type blocks would've been having a word on each block.
The language of German is completely different. It's letter by letter, so the movable type is basically using blocks of individual letters.
Quite a different invention from the perspective of how to carry it out. A very different concept was involved.

Some people in my English class were certain that Jerusalem was in Africa. They gave in when I showed them a map. All they said were: "Whatever, they're both the same place. / Meh, they both have crazy people." I wasn't too happy. I'm suprised that people actually care. The people that I used to know were likely to not care whether Jerusalem is in Africa or if it's in Sealand. Not that they would know what Sealand is
