This thread is about how much people around you fail when it comes to history and geography. What have people around you said or asked you about history or geography things that were enough to make you facepalm?

For me, there were these two girls back in my Modern World History class. Not saying that they're dumb, but history was NOT their strength. They wanted to be in AP History (Advanced Placement), but they were confused on everything; for example, we did maps of countries of ww2 one day and they couldn't locate china, france, germany, or england. They also were confused on which side Germany, the US, and Russia were in ww2. And a bunch of other things. A few days before our ww2 test: Quote - "So wait, I'm confused; who made the atomic bombs, the US? Idk."
And they wanted to transfer over to an AP class -_-

A conversation in my Economics class shifted from Economics to history and eventually to WW2, so my professor asks "does anyone know what happened in WW2?" and one guy's like "the whole world fought, its a World War. Remember?"
I legit wanted to kill myself!

-The GermanWings plane crashed on the Alps of Russia -Someone was arguing that it made no difference if they put the answer as "Europe" for the question "What Country colonized Mexico"

My sister was in class once, doing a history quiz. You know what this one girl asked my sister?
....Is Islam a country.
That has to be one of the stupidest things posted in this thread.
BTW, once talked to an middle aged British person who apparently didn't know what is BC/AD, or the secular version. Nor did they know who Horatio Nelson is. They did however, know an Horatio on this one TV show :/

These guys in my physics class are trying to compare christmas movies to GENOCIDE. I can't even ... Huh. Is it about pre-Christian Europe? In any case that's stupid. I remember getting annoyed when some Canadians advertised their pet cause by using Apartheid, which is South Africas segregation period. There is NO situation (not theirs at least) in Canada in the 2000s as bad as that and I find it insulting.

Facepalm moments...well, in my AP Class, most of the time, people are just messing around when they're saying stupid stuff or its stuff that isn't obvious, such as this one kid asking what were the Tanzimat Reforms (Not so obvious) or, when my teacher asked "Who was the Macedonian general who conquered from Greece to Persia?", one of the smarted kids in the class said "Robert E. Lee" (This time, as a joke).
There are some stupid questions though.
Most kids in the class didn't even know Egypt was in Africa until we got to the Scramble for Africa
The absolute worst, though, was when one of the kids, in a presentation about the Mughal leader Akbar the Great, stated that Akbar created Sikhism...yeah...

Guys can we please not talk about genocides and religion and politics? Yeah I went a bit too far there, the apartheid thing being more opinion than total face palm. Other than possibly my Christmas statement, nobody is talking about religion though.

Ah I remember this from a few years back. It was World History class, start of the year, and we were discussing something about the Middle East. I believe it was about Muhammad the Prophet. The teacher showed a map of the Middle East so that we knew where Saudi Arabia is.
So a girl that sits behind me sees Georgia in the top right (the country Georgia obviously) and says "Oh, it's near the United States then?" I almost fell out of my chair. True story

We had a mini interactive quiz (on Quizlet, if u know what that is) over ww1. One question asked: what weapon was not used in ww1? a.machine gun b.tank c.submarine d.atomic bomb.
about 7 people got the question wrong.
