I've tried it already, but nothing worked. Not defending Havana nor taking Bogota worked out for me. Unless a good strategy is to attack the USA head on, but that doesn't seem to be worthwhile.

I have been attacking the US head on and captured all of it along with Canada so victory is assured, I just felt like I used the Ion Cannon way too much. My strategy is probably not a viable one

My strategy is probably not a viable one Attacking US head on seems to be the right move, I'm at turn 11 now. Just got hold of Washington at the expense of Guderian and mainstien. No ion cannon was used. Blocking their port at the left would stop them from spawning an aircraft carrier with Eisenhower. Use paratroopers on the first turn to bring them close to the port. For the other 2 generals draw them towards the city on the north of Havana where I took in the 3rd turn. Use paras to surround and demoralize them and try to clear them off fast. Lastly head for Washington. Leave a default general at Havana in an infantry at all times to attract missiles from the US.
