Kind of a random question, do attack items (like brown gunpowder) give directly +1 attack, like 53 dmg instead of 52, or do they factor into the overall formula, like if you used it on heavy arty it'd be 3-11 instead of 2-10 If I remember the formula correctly, the item adds flat damage to the output. However, the addition is before the multiplication of factors such as extra damage from skill, evasion, or extra damage against particular unit types. In short, - The damage addition is flat (e.g. not affected by randomization) - Still it is still subject to scaling effect from factors such as extra damage from skill, evasion, or extra damage against particular unit types.

I couldn't imagine the range of an armoured vehicle being 3-16 Yeah, that makes a lot more sense now that I think about it.....

Hello guys, I was wondering if it is worth it to buy a +4 cavalry def item instead of a second +6 attack?

Hello guys, I was wondering if it is worth it to buy a +4 cavalry def item instead of a second +6 attack? That depends on how strong your cavalry general is. If they are maxed out on rank and nobility, the extra attack item is the better deal; if they are still somewhat weak, the defence item may stand you in better stead, especially in a long grinding game. Since rank and nobility can be farmed, and the ability to take and repair damage therefore increased without charge, you might be better off buying the attack item and just grinding/farming rank and nobility to increase your general's stamina. Bear in mind that if you ARE grinding for rank and medals, and you are doing it by using a cavalry general to attack multiple enemies in the same turn, it is better to have the extra attack power to be sure of certain kills and winning an extra attack or movement phase; save/reload will handle the damage aspect for you. If you are a small nation going up against bigger fish (e.g. playing as Italy, Naples, Sicily, etc.) in conquest mode, you can't afford to lose your generals; defence would be my first choice in those circumstances. This is my reasoning from first principles; those who have made both choices at some stage might want to weigh in.

Just another thought. For those willing to buy the items in the HQ shop, it is said that you can alter the item by changing the date on your device.
The implication is that specific items are/were/will be available on specific dates.
Question: is this so, and if so, is it the same for everyone?
Question: if it IS the same for everyone, should we start a thread, perhaps run by a moderator, in which the item available on the HQ store on a particular day is listed, so we can change the date to match rather than just guessing?
Of course this all changes if the item is random. And that would be good to know too.

This may be true, but sometimes the player isn't far enough into campaigns to be able to find them in the field. Depending on the item, if you have it sooner, it can pay for the extra cost in terms of medals farmed.

Not exactly, the only early game item that is essential is the snare drum which can be found early in the game. You won't die just because you don't have a few items to make farming a fraction easier. A few hundred medals isnt a small cost.

Almost vital for getting Isabela, and hugely valuable in conquests as a whole

It all depends on your attitude to grinding. I have one really nice grind set up on Kindle (20 moves worth, quit, reload) and I'm working on getting a couple set up on Android. Setting up scenarios in which I can grind hapless enemy units into the dust over and over again is a great way for me to unwind at the end of a long, busy, stressful day. Plus I have the Trafalgar medal grind set up on Kindle, and it's no trouble at all for me to tap the next-turn button over and over whenever I'm reaching for the next bit of work on my desk - that tends to build up over the course of a day. Once I've got a set of generals I'm happy with and I've boosted them way up with trainers and items, I'll be ready to tackle another princess run & maybe bring home a playmate for Sophia.

Okay, I've got the snare drum. I must have put on about 150 medals today, but I got it.
I understand what it does - eliminates the performance deficit due to injury so that your general can keep on punching to maximum weight until the end - but I would appreciate your advice in how to use it. Specifically, if I leave it on a general or princess until they die, is it recoverable for further use or is it gone until the end of the campaign/conquest?
Now to save up for War Horse.

You can transfer it from one general to the other even after the general holding it is dead. It is unlimited-use

Clarifying questions regarding some items:
The effect of the Crown is described as "promotion of rank" while the On War book is described as "rank experience". Is there a difference here, or is it just in the wording? I get the feeling that the first of these is actually nobility, the other is true rank (i.e. health points). Also, I note that Art of War costs 745 without a trader, On War 990, and both offer rank experience; Golden Staff costs 635, Crown 925 and both offer promotion of rank. What's the difference in their performance?
Military camps, tents: "Supply" - is this food, or healing of damage?
Flags: my understanding is that the general holding these has to have the "Banner" skill for them to work. Do they actually make a difference, or are they just glamour items designed to suck down medals and keep the paying customers paying? And if I have them, do they add up if I have two of the same, or combine effect if I have two different ones? Who are the Banner generals, and which of them are worth having in their own right?
Attack and defence items: how much of a bonus do they have to be to be worthwhile? +4? +6?
