Hello, hello!
As your host and GM, I welcome you to the sixth installment of the Diplomacy game series here on the EFC!
Joining us, those seven men brave enough to plunge themselves into a fearsome polar projection map and battle it out to win at least 20 Supply Centers out of the 38 as a clear majority! However, if the game proceed so far into the 1950s, I may reconsider a smaller victory criteria such as taking at least 15 out of 38 to win out as a solid contender for global domination. Even as the GM, I cannot tell what may unfold in here! Who knows what will happen?
Let's take a quick look at the board, you will note that the first phase is a winter build phase in 1939 as a preparation for the Spring 1940 movement phase to come.
The roster thus (listing the countries by alphabetical order):
China with 3 home centers - Laurent de Gouvion
Germany with 3 home centers - Yi Sun Sin
Italy with 3 home centers - best75
Japan with 3 home centers - The Spanish Inquisition
UK with 5 home centers - Imperial RomeBall
USA with 3 home centers - Polenbal
USSR with 4 home centers - Quintus Fabius
Timetable of phases:
The initial Winter phase of 1939 will last 48 hours.
The Spring and Fall movement phases in each year 1940 and onward will last 48 hours.
The Retreat phases for either Spring or Fall will last only 24 hours.
The subsequent Winter phases after 1939 will last only 24 hours.
Each phase ends at noontime for Central Standard Time (CST) or on your world clock, the local Chicago time.
A grace period is given up to 8 hours maximum in case of a missed deadline. This may be retracted or reduced in the event of excessive or multiple abuses of the grace period.
Please do try to send in at least SOMETHING for your orders to me in a private message before the deadline. Even a temporary set of orders is far better than triggering a NMR (No Moves Received) which is considered a total failure in the Dippy hobby. A NMR means all of your units doesn't move nor support each other even within range for a movement phase. During a Winter phase, no builds would be given on an automatic basis. All disbands will be automatically enforced in the event of a NMR in a Winter phase, starting with the unit farthest from the home centers, proceeding from that one until the SC/unit count is met. During a retreat phase for either Spring or Fall seasons, all units that has an opportunity to retreat will be automatically disbanded for a NMR.
A NMR is very ugly and destructive to your chances of doing well in this game. I really do strongly advise you against triggering one. Simply taking time to log in at least once a day for a span of 15 minutes at least would have a strong effect in preventing one from happening.
A player who may need more time for a phase is welcome to ask for an extension (provided that this is not done in excess, of course) or if a player needs to be away for a while from this forum, he may ask for a short extension or a substitute (rather than a longer extension out of respect for the others who wishes to proceed with the phases). Real Life happens, I know. Believe me, I had my share of crazy or stupid things popping up at the worst possible time. I wouldn't be surprised if you got your share too. It's okay.
Any questions or comments (within reason), but no rude gestures from anyone?
