I'm currently trying to get as many medals as possible without a general, let's hope you can get 2 or even 3k without any general at all.

So it needs to be said, tanks are the dominant force in this game, since artillery starts out with lower output than in the last title. On top of this, the health benefits from a general are now a percent instead of a flat rate, further increasing the reasons to buy a tank general first. With that in mind, I went with Messe, because he has four (upgradable to five stars) and rumor, which is invaluable in early game. I recommend playing through the first four german missions first, then a one star conquest (which is really easy) and a few of the challenge missions (the blue ones on the domination screen) to get his runor skill up at least twice, and then going after the allied missions. I have pit him up against Rommel, Rundestedt, and Kesselring and been able to defeat them easily (read:no s/l) because he gets them confused and has high output due to the naturally high output of the tanks in this version.
TL;DR- get messe, upgrade rumor, and win

My first general was Messe. Cheap, he is decent to succeed more or less well the first missions.
My second general was Tito.
But anyway you will need very quickly a better general than them, even fully upgraded they are no match for a Joukov or Manstein. I finally replaced them respectively by Manstein and Rundstedt. I got later Leeb, Donitz and Kesselring.

My first was messe also, he is cheap does the job he needs to and makes the tolerable until the battle of britan and the battle of kursk. Then is when you will maybe need a second general.

Messe is cheap and effective. Auchinleck has better tank abilities for a bit higher price, and Bock has three great abilities, but he is twice the price of Messe. Messe also has some good versatility as a first general. He has good infantry skill, decent naval skill, and he has Rumor, which is good for all three of those roles. You can use him for lots of invasions in Domination mode. Badoglio is your best entry-level artillery option. Govorov is a step up, and Konev is your ultimate artillery goal. I'd wait until you can afford Halsey for a naval commander. He's not much more than Fletcher and has better abilities. Upgrade to Vatutin for tanks when you get the chance. He is one step below Guderian and Manstein, and for a really good price.

TL;DR- get messe, upgrade rumor, and win Which country did you play for the one star conquest, since whenever I pick a side it fails terribly. If I go axis my allies end up losing terribly and take almost no land and vice versa if I go Allies it all usually ends with me having to carry them which is pretty hard to do as a one star.

I'm gonna try to gun for the siggested top gens (Konev, Guderian, etc.) first, but my results will probably come out very late.

Gunning for Konev, since he will be affordable after 40 percent discount. Gotta live with low-quality life before him. Maybe Leonid Govorov might be a good choice, I don't know.

Govorov is a good value in early silver tier considering his six star skill. I'd try to get Guderian first, though. Tank commanders have more value.
