Infantry was always good what do you mean? Mech and commandos are great, and infantry shines in frontier, where HP isn't a massive issue. The best inf gen is Yama, w/ Marshall being the best support. I dislike Simo and prefer Mac over him. Isn't Simo's 2-hex skill quite a major advantage, be it in Frontier or Warzone? One can pack another decoy inf unit and attack with Simo. An additional 20-40 dmg per turn may not be much, but it's hard work.

I would say yes, as even Rund is better, and I dislike Rund. It's not a massive loss selling him and buying Yama. Answering your other question, MacArthur is also another good infantry general.

Yama and Marshall outperform exceptionally well, and w/out explosives, Simo hurts even more. I won't say having 2 range is bad, I think it's great w/ 100% fatal blow, but if his only really good perk is that (and raider ofc) then I'm gonna have some issues. Deterrence is a poor man's rumor, though funnily enough Simo is p2w. More like deterrence is a p2w newb's rumor.

I don’t have a lot of medals currently… I still need to upgrade my generals like Guderian and Konev. I think Mannerheim will have to suffice for now, I can’t afford to buy Yamashita and upgrade his skill set.

Ok thanks, but I always suffer heavy losses in navy and infantry battles though is that normal? I use Raeder and Mannerheim respectively

When I first began, I put "Rumour" and "crowd tactic" on Konev so he can confuse and increase allies' attack in both artillery and infantry invasion, until I have enough medals to buy Yamashita. You can put Rumour and Wolfpack on Raedar. (Try to confuse enemy general first and then focus attack on him, then finish the rest. If there are submarine, finish them first and then the general). Put rumour on Mannerheim too, he will lacks power to kill, but let him confuse or demoralise all enemies and let your infantries protect him and focus on enemy general.

Thank you so much, I have put rumour and sailor on Raeder is that ok? Do I need to switch to Wolfpack? Also do you by any chance know if sailor will trigger when land units and costal artillery attack my ship?

For Raeder, I did explosives, as Doenitz can handle the rumor stuff. WP is useless on Raeder as it doesn't stack.

When counter-attack, my general will demoralise and confuse enemies with Rumour. If you don't have Donitz, you can use Wolfpack to increase your allies attack. or you can put inspiration (cheaper version) to increase morale > increase your own attack. Wolfpack discussion: european-war-4.boards.net/thread/11551/wolfpack-worthRank skill list (although it's old, it's still useful): european-war-4.boards.net/thread/7915/rank-list-skills-make-fearsome

I saw Vasily in mission 9 of Barbarossa challenge. Looks free but same problem as Hayha. Judgement was only based on the fact he lacks a purple background.

I completed all the levels in UN hard mode with Mannerheim only (not all of them for 3 stars though). Unless you are playing levels/modes I didn't (e.g. I can't say much about Warzone and I didn't finish Frontier), you don't need more than 1 infantry general and Mannerheim is more than enough for that role.
