The war could take place back on the 3 kingdoms era.
Actually that could be a good idea. Someone takes the Shu kingdom, Wu kingdom and Wei kingdom. Although there aren't many other countries involved in that.

maybe its fun to select athe world map at a random time. lets say 1625. no alliances in the beginning and no war in the beginning. you can choose your alliances in the beginning and enter the war
