I see a lot of criticism towards wc4. (I'm not complaining) and I'm sure we can all agree the game can be improved. But i don't think wc4 gets the love it deserves. I would like to point out what i like personally about the game.
Campaign- in world conquerors 4 there are a total of 104 missions and 96 on wc3 (not including union/terrorist) not only is there more missions on wc4, there is more variety and difference in the missions. There was barely any difference in the bronze silver and gold stars on wc3 and a significant difference between easy and hard. I also like that Europe and Pacific are to different scenarios all together.
Artillery- we can all agree the R.A at 1st is lots worse. But with maxed out tech it is just as good as world conqueror 3 but it can fight back and the damage spread does not damage friendly units. The howitzers can become more mobile. Only moving 1 space at a time was an issue in world conqueror 3. It isnt hard to do aswell.
Invasions- ET knows there needs to be a way to earn medals when everything in compleate and the invasion system is much more practical than the wonder back in wc3. Wonders can increase the invasions and reward and are always quite easy to do.
General discount- if you are good at the game and can compleate the 40% discount mission without good generals great generals like konev nimiz and rommel become available for a cheap price.
Skills boost- skills in wc4 are genraly more powerfull than wc3. For example blitzkrieg max in wc3 is 24% and in wc4 is 60%. Being able to add skills to generals is good to. Additional skills like rumor have been added giving the game more variety.
Tech tree- The wc4 tech upgrades are far more interesting with new features.
Air defence- the AD is only required to be built once and not up to 4 times lile in wc3. It's also quite cheap.
Land system- I don't know about anyone else but in world conqueror 3 then theres different coloured land everywhere what looks a mess it realy pi**** me off. I like how tidy things now look
Exercise in ?- a nice new feature not in world conqueror 3. As it progresses on it's a challenge for those with good generals.
Skill boosting medals- again an other new feature boosting skills even more. What makes them so great is how easy they are to get
Others- I like how you can upgrade hp with coins. The nukes are cheep.
What do other people like?

Blitzkrieg goes up to 60% and then adding the Blitzkrieg medal on top of it increases to 90%. Very nice.
The province system and the upgrading cities is probably my most favorite things about WC4. Border gore doesn't really happen anymore and any level 1 city can become an air base. That really helps with fast conquests.
I do wish that we received medal rewards for completing conquests, not for just collecting an achievement linked to it. It's easy to plateau when you are having trouble in 1950 but have already beaten all types of 1943.
The tech tree is also a good feature, although it is massively expensive. I don't know how I'm supposed to get good tech while also building wonders that cost 150,000 gold...

Each conquest last 40 turns or less for me. They stacked up fast.

Yes, in general wc4 has notable improvements. But IMO what was better in WC3: AI was more clever and also game was much more challenging.

Enemy AI seems better in WC4, and there is less ways to cheese them. By now I have found 3 very serious problems of AI which I haven't seen in WC3: AI plunges in water to attack ground units which can be attacked from the ground (in invasions, if that is gen, you get very huge advantage). AI leaves cities unprotected, which makes you win scenarios when you must have no chance. In many cases AI don't capture your cities with paratroopers and don't attacks your gens. The only improvement I noticed so far is that AI uses long range units more wisely (not always).

The difficulty in modern war is very high. I am on NATO 5 / WTO 6. I hope modern war will be more interesting, but assuming how it was by now, I don't think so.

Just that Defence drop to 0 in wc4 while you are in water and your range attacks become melee in water which makes you vulnerable and makes the debuff more significant( so you actually feel it too) Other than that I think they ai is the same for both games just that wc 4. 2. Ai don't leaves citiesunprotected. Unless you starve them of resources. In you have modern war u will face Titan tanks each turn on city with no fortifications. In 1980 conquest, they leave cities unprotected cause they used up their funds building units elsewhere. 3. Ai always capture your city with paratroopers. I am not sure where you get the idea that they don't. If they don't, either your city is not beside their city with an airport thus less aggro for them/ not in their airport range. Or they have insufficient funds. Most ai do this at the beginning of their turn.

However, I'd rather have no AI paratroopers than the dreaded paraspam, especially with the Assault ability nerf.

Whether and when enemy gen will plunge or not - that's random, I prefer to rely on tactics. Sure, there is not much of tactics in invasions, but even trying to flank enemy is more interesting than waiting for him to plunge. Assault nerf is temporary, sooner or later you will get 100% assault. And what about paraspam, at least it was a kind of tactics, which let AI to make something when you try to invade far east with motorized infs.

But I suggest you to look closer at AI as there are quite many ways to trick it and some of them are not present in wc3.

You can exploit the fact that ai always would capture objectives city. Drop a paratroop with enemy nearby. This would require some planning. Put your tank general beside the city. Ai will Attack the city, waste their income on paratroop probably their carrier attacks as well.
Kill their paratroop with tank general. Drop another paratroop on the city. Gain abit of exp for rank up purposes. Rinse and repeat. This can be exploited mostly in Super difficult domination battles and will help you to mitigate damage from multiple carriers generals as well as wasting enemy land units Attack and income.

I wouldn't have won the Hold the Ground Burma challenge if AI actually paratrooped into my realistically undefended 0 HP city.
They partially resumed the EC feature.
ET increased the no. of campaigns/scenarios available.

I like the unique units some of the countries have. Especially minor countries get commandos which make them more interesting to play.
