Guderian and rommel are better than roko Imo, Rokossovsky is better than Rommel. He has more health, nice skills (Rommel has desert fighting which is useless), Rokossovsky has shelter and tide of iron to keep him punching. Rommel only has Crossfire.

True. But most units even rokossovsky can’t one hit kill I mean if the units damaged True. But nevertheless, it will take a skilled player to resist that skill imo

I would think Crerar is a better defense general because you can give him crossfire and he already has a high urban warfare stat, making him better at defending than patton skill-wise.
And if you wanted to spec a truly “defense” tank gen, then graziani would still be a better performer than patton.
Patton is like Napoleon in EU4, all stars and no skills

For 500 medals, even Messe will be a much better defense option as he has rumor.

Montgomery might be a better defensive general, but a crazy idea I had was Rommel. Ditch blitzkrieg and just add city fighting and he will be a powerful(if not most powerful) defensive punch with crossfire. Lack of rumour though so no true best defensive general here, which is a huge pity. Wc4 should introduce a really good defensive general to spice things up. Best defensive general doesn't really need air, navy nor movement stars. 6 star tanker, no need artillery and infantry stars. Marshall rank, panzer leader, rumour, crossfire, armoured assault and city fighting.

Marshall rank, panzer leader, rumour, crossfire, armoured assault and city fighting. Unfortunately all defensive generals are sitting ducks in the Modern war missions. Artillery of Terrorists has 100% no-retaliation probability and the majority of their tank generals has Blitzkrieg. The best way to defeat them is Rumor + offensive abilities like Panzer leader and so on. I bought Rommel mostly because of counterattack (and his price, of course, was a bargain ). But my strategy to use him in that way never materialised, to be honest. In these Modern war missions literally attack is the best form of defense...

Yes, mere shooting targets they are in the face of terrorist generals like Williams and Osborn. Their utility ends at 1950 cold war. Well if you are playing daily invasions with deserts, or challenging speed runs where there will be a spam at you, then rommel seems like a sound choice.
