Yamamoto is in an embrassing position . Donitz have more 22 naval damage than Yamamoto (wolfpack also buff the generals for whatever reason ) Dowdling with around 1700 (with 2 mobility upgrades) can do the land-air with more level on explosive and sometimes a carrier role ( i mean who let their carrier in dangerous spot anyways ) . With extra 2 slot , you lacking option for him to go naval or air . With naval , the best choice is naval leader and rumor but hey donitz is there with a little more cost but come with higher level skill Going full air is the best option by giving him filling two expert skill and levelling his airforce leader and carpet bombing role (but i mean who put their generals all time in city anyways) . The land role is the most embrassing as i mention dowdling with extra upgrades can be equally similar at lower cost .Worst , donitz with upgrades on artillery and rumor can be a really good artillery generals (a weird role for him to help with rommel discount mission ) as artillery role. In conclusion , yamamoto is jack of all trades. , master of none but it is better for us to buy more generals to avoid lacking someone to fill a role when the supposed role have to be assigned elsewhere

I don’t really think you need donitz either. Why not use Kuznetsov on artillery. He won’t move as fast, but he is 1/3 of donitz’s price tag, and starts off arguably better. Just upgrade his rumor to lvl 5 and you can use him on anything. Donitz is also ridiculously expensive. In my opinion, the only really expensive general worth getting is Guderian, maybe Rokossovsky if you can’t get Rommel discounted.

Frankly, my line-up only has, maybe, one-two high priced generals. Guderian is definitely in there, and the second would have to be either Yamashita (for when you want a surprisingly funny glass-cannon) or Rokossovsky (cause tanks). Granted, I will give Graziani an honorable mention, because he's extremely close to being great. Patton feels meh, for his price (just get Guderian, then cheaper generals). Monty is...well, Monty (not bad, but...eh? Again, Guderian exists, along with other, cheaper generals). Mac costs more than Yamashita, and is debatably worse. Donitz is a naval general that costs 105 medals less than Yamamoto (so why not just get Yam?). Sadly, though, Yamamoto also sucks for the same reasons. Cost. There are better generals to be spending medals on. Simple. Why buy Yamamoto, when you could get Guderian, then work towards discount Nimitz, Konev, etc. etc.

He can be mich stronger in my opinion, especially if you give him plain fighting and raider, and the legion (plain, urban boosting medal), sun (raider), and knight (infantry leader) medal. I would go as far as to say I prefer him to yamashita as I dislike ace forces and bayonet charge. Montgomery is good but I just don’t use him because he is montgomery.

I still prefer Nimitz because he can be useful on both Naval and Air. Yamashita and Dönitz are too expensive.

The only problem of Yamamoto is his price. But when he becomes like this, he's a beast and super good Naval+Air general.

The only problem of Yamamoto is his price. But when he becomes like this, he's a beast and super good Naval+Air general. Definitely true. Nimitz and Kuznetsov together cost less than him. Unfortunately, he is the cheapest navy general other than nimitz who can have explosives and rumor together on navy.

Explosives and Rumor plus 4 Artillery stars are a good combination for an Artillery general as well. All his rivals are significantly weaker in this respect. Best hybrid in the game imo, but very expensive...

But even if nimitz has less stars, he will bring ace forces to the table, another excellent skill.

Strictly speaking Nimitz and Doenitz are better than Yamamoto as Navy generals, Arnold and Dowding are equal to him as Air generals and every good Artillery general has advantage over him on land. But no-one else can do all 3 things together, and that's why some of us like hybrids . If sometime in the future I will decide to play WC4 again - he definitely will be in my team
