Yeah definitely underrated. I myself am guilty of the yamashita hype. Give him raider and plain fighting (and the medal), and he’ll be a powerful conquest general, capable of both defending and attacking well. Or if you give him rumor and plain fighting, he’ll just be a fantastic hybrid that makes timoshenko look like a joke. Overall a great general honestly

He seems like a good hybrid, but Runstedt is probably a better choice. Considering the price. However, Macarthur has a lot more potential than Runstedt. This is my first post.

Yeah, but I think even with the same cost Rundstedt can be better than MacArthur still. I think the best I can upgrade MacArthur is by giving him rumor and raider, it would make him a good offensive infantry, but lacks in defense. As for Rundstedt, I can give him rumor and raider (which I do), it makes him a pretty balanced infantry general since you'll have to crack forts in cities with enemy units too, the guerrilla can be useful. He can also inject rumors to support other generals too. And don't forget he has a maximum potential of 5 air force stars, which is useful for air support or emergency air force.
MacArthur may not be on the top 2 (which are Yamashita and Rundstedt), but I think he's the 3rd best infantry (ignoring price), because the next option would be Mannerheim (which is also pretty fantastic). But imo MacArthur beats Mannerheim because with one more skill slot he can have raider which makes him compatible in all terrains along with infantry leader (they stack together), and he's also very fast. And at least entrechment is not as useless as elastic defense.

Useless IRL and useless ingame In game, I prefer him to Yama for inf and Timo for support. IRL, he was absolutely brilliant, making the entire S. Pacific campaign with less casualties than in the battle of the bulge, a battle in which the Germans had no chance! And what about Inchon? |

Just because he's overrated doesnt mean that he's useless. Even Guderian, Rommel, and many other great WWII General being called overrated to some other people. Does that mean that they're useless too? Ingame, McArthur is rather overpriced than useless. He has inf. leader, 5 inf. stars, and entrenchment is better than elastic defense, beside his extra 2 slots that you can build to your own needs. Lvl. 3 street fighting also good for defending your city. But for 2425? better get Yamashita, Rundstedt, or Mannerheim. |
