So I recently finished my first conquest, I had started and quit two previous ones before finishing my third. I have pretty good tech and generals, but found the conquests to be quite tedious and not worth the rewards. I invested probably 10+ hours in each of the two I quit, then about 40 hours in the one I completed (1939 Germany with ~180 turns). I was about to quit the third one, until I realized that missle silos make all the difference. I was expecting a huge resource and medal haul after completing the conquest, but it was rather trivial and I'm struggling to get the motivation to invest the time to do another conquest...
How long does it take you guys to complete a conquest? I think I wasted a lot of time planning out the moves and doing things that didn't really matter in the end, but I wouldn't expect the total time to ever to drop below say 6-10 hours. Also, it seems that the conquests are really just the following: gain ground on enemy, hold off attacks until missle silo tech, missle everyone and paratroop city by city. The missle/para step is pretty time consuming and tedious I found.
Are conquests really worth playing? What can I do to prevent them from being lots of tedious hours for very little reward?

The most number of turns I took should be 131. The reason is probably because I can predict what to expect from past conquest experience in other ET games.
I do agree that finding motivation to do conquests for fun isn't that easy, especially when you've been getting setbacks, but at least think about the achievement you get for <S Rank> clear, <A Rank> clear, <1st clear with X* nation in 19-->. 500 medals, a Medal (the one used to boost gen skills) & more medals.
Lastly, you can always try again sometime later. I am perfectly capable of taking on CWE 1* conquests now but I've yet to finish up 1st 1* nation clear of 1943, 2* nation clear of 1950, not to even mention 1950 1*. Why? I couldn't get that perfect opening I wanted or the speedy development, so I left them alone, to train more in <Scenarios> & strengthen myself with higher HQ lvls. Now, I just need to get back to conquests & gain more WC4 conquest exp, with my better strength, I am in an easier position to win.

The rewards get much better later. For example, completing 1980 Japan (1 star country) with S rating is pretty easy and it took me about 3-4 hours to finish The rewards are: 135k Money 8k Industry, 4k Energy and 240 Technology. That's about 2-3 times the resources which you get for same performance with 1 star in 1943 and in less time.

I find myself enjoying conquests. Please do not feel discouraged from your first few conquests. It's quite normal that people spent 100+ turns on their first. But things will get better as you have better tech and generals.
Normally, it takes me about a couple of hours (30-45 turns) to finish a conquest with 1 or 2 stars nation, and maybe an hour (20-30 turns) for 3 stars one. Note that I am a kind of player who enjoy doing things at my own pace, not a rushing type. So you may see that other members here can do it much faster than me. Well, what I really want to say is that you will eventually get to a point where completing conquest is not that tedious anymore (well, unless you don't like doing it in the first place).
And in later era conquests, you get access to missile quicker because you start with a higher tech level.

Alright, I'll give it another shot. Guess I will try to maximize my tech early on to get to silos quicker. Also, I think a lot of the extra time was because all my allies died, so had to conquer pretty much the entire map. Perhaps if I can get to silos before my allies die off that would help too. 1-2 hours would be great, I am surprised that is even possible

To be quite honest, it all depends on the nation. Italy took me 98 turns with bad tech and 2 good generals (Rommel, graziani) and finland took me 112 turns with tito and messe. Conquests normally take me around 8 hours.

It will be better after a few conquests, it’s just the matter of getting to know how AI react etc. and how to fight that. I remember struggeling a lot in conquests in WC3 but eventually it wasn’t hard at all. In the WC4 library you can see which countries are easy to play. Don’t give up after your first conquest, that’s the best advice I can give you.
