I don't know what's goin on with my Artilleries on the battlefield but with this version of EW6, they really not the king on the field anymore, low hp, high cost (easy to die, hard to spam), slow off the mark (can't get to the frontline on time to help out), very very low damage output and I find out that the smallest ships do the work better than my artilleries bombarding cities. The only thing I can make use of them is to throw some of their "balls" into hordes of amphibious troops and small ships, they die really fast fighting bigger ships.
And the worst thing is there's no good enuf artillery gens you can choose, forcing you to buy Napoleon.
Kutuzov, as he has the two skills "Landfort" and "Palin fighting" that means one of the 2 will be useless at anytime. And It's really hard to find an opportunity for his "Explosive", the Survivability skill is not needed as artilleries always stay behind Infs and Cavs. Maybe it's his Battle ability and Artillery ability compensate for 2030 medals.
MahmudII, with the "Desert fighting" becomes obsolete, he only has 3 skill, only a decent choice for 1500s medals
AlexanderI, very good if you can find a mountain when the battle has not finished, and his Battle+Artillery abilities are not high enuf.
Molke, not enuf damage output.
Only John is a better choice with only 800s medals but he needs a General with Halo skill to take care on the battlefield to make his best.

Artillery I weak in this version of EW mainly due to the -25% to land units and weak non iap gens. Kutuzov is already the best choice for medal gens but his skill set as you said is nothing to write home about, only plain fighting and salvo are good. You should treat artillery as support units to maximize damage with their range rather than using them as main damage pieces. Although I have to say in early on in the game they are really useful when you don’t have many upgrades for your infantry and cavalry yet.

Well, in some sense you answered your own question John (or Kutuzov) + a general with Halo skill is one of the possible remedies. You don't have many to choose from. Alexander and Mahmud are (with their own pro's and con's) the only generals who have it. And I actually think that even two or three excellent skills are good enough. Here is an example how powerful can be Art generals near a general with Halo skill european-war-4.boards.net/thread/8974/european-war-6-alexander

I think you are underestimating our artillery generals here. They are not perfect but they don't need to be perfect to be effective. Even the best cavalry and infantry generals still have skills that are not very good. No one is praising for Washington for his alert and ambush skill but he is still very useful because he has high battle ability, infantry assualt, and plain fighting. Same goes for Kutuzov just his high battle ability, salvo, and plain fighting make him a good general.

I don't think it is disappointment with Kutuzov. It is about arty as a unit for fighting the enemy units. It is less effective and weak. But that somewhat similar to real life. Artillery is easy to destroy as soon as You can reach it. That's why low HP. I like what they did. Ineffective infantry against cities and weak arty. Quite significant step towards realistic battles

Not sure OP has a grip on artillery and it's influence when upgraded. It is always an good asset. Kutuzov is a good for artillery to build on imo .

I somehow agree with him due to the fact my Kutuzov, although maxed, can’t even deal 90+ base damage on Light Artillery...

I also agree with the fact that Kutuzov is not that good. I traded him for Davout once the cavarly buffing patch came out, and I have never regretted that decision. But saying that all artillery sucks I am going to have to disagree. For me siege artillery and rocket artillery are the best units. Rocket artillery demolishes common units with massive damage whereas siege artillery is the best of the cannons. Saying that all artillery generals are meh is an overstatement. I agree that Moltke is a terrible choice, as all of his skills are worthless. But there are also great choices. For example, as you mentioned before Mahmud II and Alexander I. They are both meant to be halo generals, which they perform excellently due to their high ranks. However, alexander has an arguably useful terrain bonus and Mahmud II can be really strong as well due to the fact that he has three of the best skills in the game for artillery, and only one useless skill. Also, Scharnhorst is often overlooked, but critical strike, plain fighting, and salvo make him one of the best if not the best non iap artillery general. He is really really strong, and cheap at 1200 medals. Also, I found jourdan to be quite dope as well, so if you buy a halo general and use him to buff jourdan, you will have a pretty effective team. So in summary: Scharnhorst, Alex 1, Mahmud II = Very Good Kutuzov, Dearborn, Scott, Jourdan (free), Napoleon III = Good Everybody else is trash. Also don’t even consider buying Moltke. He lacks salvo and is a very weak general choice cuz of that. He isn’t much better than Jourdan for his price, just slightly easier to use due to having jungle rather than mountain. Either keep jourdan or get discounted John instead. Moltke is like the Napoleon of Ew4 in this game.

Hm. Strange. Scharnhorst is just equal to Kutuzov if You are not going to upgrade Kuruzov's three skills. What's the reason to rate him as very good and higher than Kutuzov? Only because of the critical hit skill? But particularly this skill is trigger skill and for artillery is almost of no importance.

Yep, it's John and Mahmud my choice, they work really well together, but the question is, do we need a third Artillery general? I'm finding hard busting cities with Cavs and Infs. Usually in missions, you're going to have three directions to attack, most of the time I use Murat-Blucher, Karl-Massena, and John-Mahmud. If I hire another Artillery general, so it'll be Blucher-John, Murat-Mahmud, Karl/Massena-Alexander/Scharnhorst/Jourdan

The only reason to hire him is aura skill, imo. But You have Mahmud, so if You want 3rd arty gen use Jourdan. Personally I think You can live without 3rd artillery general. You have both Karl and Massena, take 3rd infantry gen instead in order to recieve maximum synergy from this new gen purchase.

But kutuzov has only 3 skills worth upgrading: salvo, plain warfare, and station (city fighting). My issue with station is that who keeps an artillery in a city for defense? Maybe against navy. He does a damage reduction skill too. But in my personal opinion he is just not worth his medals. The critical hit skill that Scharhorst has, and even his morale raising skill do more than make up for Kutuzov’s station + explosives (useless skill) + damage reduction. And my scharnhorst has Level 5 salvo, Level 5 crit, and Level 4 plain fighting (too lazy to upgrade it). So I am talking the generals at their best once fully upgraded, even if that means Kutuzov as all of his skills at 5. Kutuzov does have higher defense than Scharnhorst no doubt. But scharnhorst has greater output. Artillery is not really a unit you want taking damage all the time.

And remember that there are a total of 6 general slots allowed for campaign (I am currently busy upgrading Karl so I am still in the english one). I think the issue you are having is that you are fighting on too many fronts. I usually keep mine at one or two fronts maximum (unless I have a navy general plus a useless general to help me take coastal cities). I would split the cavarly up on their own front and have the infantry support the artillery.

So, critical hit is almost useless for artillery. I would even say most of the arty gens are very close. And real difference between them is only visible if You upgrade all those "useless" skills. And definitely Kutuzov with all skills upgraded is better.
