Well I usually have most of Germany by 20 so that could explain it. i got my numbers wrong, it's 25 and 35 rounds that i need to do. not sure what comes after 35 for 1 star but i probably need that as well. and here i've been stressing because i'm still fighting germany after round 12 😂 Blitzkrieg Berlin and Thailand is the key, by having both under control and have at least 2 Econ generals in Borneo and Bangkok you will quickly have the fund to expand on the now financially weak Germany by spawning elites armors and artilleries. I managed to subdue Germany before round 15 in my 24-round Netherlands challenge run. The culprit that 1-turned your Manstein is probably Kluge on lvl 9 Gustav spawned in Berlin, Blitz Berlin before he spawns makes things easier.

My impressions from Challenge Conquest (after having completed a handful now):
1. Allies is (not surprisingly) superior for speed runs. For the achievements I used: 3* Soviets or UK 2* China 1* Netherlands -> don't defend Amsterdam, try to build a base for recruiting Generals around Munich.
2. Skytrain & Priest is very strong for kick-starting a new front. With Netherlands this allowed me to take Bangkok in Turn 2 (with Excellence medal)
3. Europe is much more difficult then the Pacific. Germany has some of the most dangerous units. Tiger tanks and the Gustavs can melt even the best generals, sometimes it's difficult to even deploy our best safely. Their generals do enter the English channel after conquering France. To my frustration the UK-AI decides to engage the Germans at the same time and the English channel gets clogged. If you can finish Rommel and Leeb here that helps a lot. Their assault towards Russia slows down if you provide resistance on at least one European front. Providing some funds to the USSR can go a long way. Japan has a very powerful navy but its land units lack punch. I usually employ all of my naval generals on this front. I have ran into the issue that Pearl Harbor stays under Japanese control and this costs extra turns, planning for this can be a lifesaver.
4. In general the special units are absurd. While mine are usually in the range of 2-4 with most of the more powerful not unlocked, the AI has access to a plethora (and at lvl 9). The T44 increases it's range to 2 squares and it's special ability makes it essentially indestructible for a round. Gustav and Tiger hit absurdly hard. But the AI can get stuck on cities, this allows us to keep our generals alive while meat shields tank damage. Especially when facing Kluge & Leeb -do not place a general in a city.
For me it's a nice challenge and really refreshing way of playing Conquest. Has a lot of potential to be built on. I just think we should have more ways of earning the fragments for elite units there seems to be a big imbalance between my own and AI forces in this regard.

What is the surrender option for? I have lost my money twice while persuading Canada and France to surrender but with no effect.

What is the surrender option for? I have lost my money twice while persuading Canada and France to surrender but with no effect. Welcome to the ET world of probability I haven't played these conquests yet, but usually there is always a probability that your offer is rejected. As I understand, you have to decrease a loyalty of a faction to their common cause, before even attempting it...

Conquering all their land and destroying most of their force will cut the persuading cost and increase chance of them surrendering when loyalty is low (still you may need a few tries).

Well, the mode is quite entertaining if you are new, but it is still quite possible to do the achievements up to Darlan, Germany is a nightmare but it is possible, Italy is quite easy since Germany covers you, yes, Weygand will make your life Impossible life in Africa, Spain is also easy, the fact that you have an elite rocket artillery makes things very easy for you, again a major problem is Weygand, and Japan is quite easy although it made me quite nervous managing the resources between the invasion from Alaska, the Pacific Fleet and the invasion of China, the T44s are the Japanese Weygand, an easy Axis nation is Romania, having elite artillery is quite strong, Athens is easy to defend while you advance alongside Germany and Italy about Stalingrad and you continue about Arabia and Africa, and the only one-star nation that I find feasible having little is Finland, Simo is brutal and Mannerheim is a good support, the bad thing is that you have to make several attempts to get Germany to take Moscow no matter what (preferably preventing Sokolovsky from appearing although if he appears it is not so bad), taking care that Germany does not lose Moscow which could happen, preventing Guderian from dying especially before taking Moscow, and not having the bad luck that bagramyan will be thrown at your neck, or even worse that Horton will come, it is also very important to take the Baltic city to avoid problems with vatutin but this is easy, not meeting rokko which is easy and not eating a lot of tolbukin harms when taking the city between Leningrad and Moscow, and not distract yourself too much to support Guderian to take Moscow in a matter of 10 or 12 turns maximum, once you have passed the Moscow dilemma it is a walk (most of the time you will only be able to have the Finnish generals for all this but sometimes it gives you to deploy a general in commands, which is useful), just help Germany to clean up the Soviet advances in its territory a little and you go straight through India and Arabia towards Australia, the United Kingdom is very easy, Just defend the island, use your African and Arab garrisons to eliminate Ethiopia and make Egypt and Weygand stronger (giving France resources once it's just Africa and making sure it takes all of Spain is usually very useful) while you eat Japan, with United Kingdom you don't even need so many generals, rungsted in Africa, Guderian defending the coast of London was all that was necessary for like 80% of the game (the remaining 20% was killing Guderian and Kluge who went together to China it was horrible), Although perhaps it would have been better to deploy Guderian in Arabia to take him to Africa and Spain, I had planned to take him and Monty to Russia but it was not possible and he stayed on the island.
The rest I have not played with other nations, the United States annoys me a bit, a brief attempt with France was horrible and I do not dare to try it with the Soviet Union, and all this only with;
generals:
-Guderian (only improved, explosives level 5 and rumor level 4, the others at level 5 + cross, assault and armored assault medal + logistics and armored defense ribbons level 2)
-Leeb (with level 1 explosives as the only investment + freedom and empire medals + level 2 fast artillery ribbon)
-Konev (sun medal only)
-Horton (depot ship level 3 + medals of honor and revolution + naval courage ribbon level 3)
-List (assault medal only)
-Rungsted (great soldier level 4 + gold star medal + infantry courage ribbons and fast infantry level 2
-Pavlov
Special Forces:
only doctor and hms prince of wales level 2
technology:
-infantry (complete)
-artillery (missing an armor upgrade and a couple of damage upgrades)
-tanks (complete)
-naval (about 45%)
-air force (about 60%)
-defenses (level 2 bunker only)
-anti-aircraft (only level 2 and 3 weapons and level 2 artillery)
-missiles (nothing)
special buildings:
only the last 4 are missing

Is the battlepass cumulative as it next rewards build on past rewards? Eg, if all cities need to be conquered, one run will clear that entire category, as opposed to multiple runs to clear each mission for this category.
Do I need to conquer all cities? What if I ally all neutrals and turn on my allies and the allied neutrals in the same run?

Actually, it is possible to make neutral countries your allies and to conquer all cities simultaneously in one single run. First make donations and tempt them to join your cause, then declare war on them and eliminate them one after another. This was proposed by Erich von Manstein and I think it is a good way to get rid of these tedious tasks with one single blow. To kill two birds with one stone, they say

Is there any point to attempting to surrender enemies? If it's chance based on percent loyalty I'm the unluckiest person in the world since at around 30ish percent loyalty France has rejected my offer to surrender 5 times. How is the calculation even done, is it checking a threshold to even start considering surrendering? The only time I've gotten a surrender was on a one city France at around 12% loyalty.
