Friedrich “Fried Rice” Paulus , on a serious note, i think we can all agree, as yuanzhong has pointed out, Antony, our favorite cutie . There no real reason to dislike him except maybe for breakthrough. But his Talent + march is such a great combination that it makes him forgo movement speed items and can opt for your best offensive items to match the damage range close to that of Hannibal. He can also reach places that will take 2 or 3 turns for other units to reach, unless they have the gallic map?(Item that makes you ignore terrain). You can give Antony a movement item if you want him to go from Rome to Dacia in only 3 turns. I don't own Antony, eventually I have to get him to contend for records, but I do not love him. I think he lacks skills that increase survivability (Guerilla), skills that do consistent or occasional critical damage (terrain fighting/raid/assault), and charge isn't enough. His speed makes him very, very likable, but overall I'd rank Arminius and maybe Huo above him.

dsongop,i'd place him above huo and Arminius after using him for a while. The problem is you can only equip 1 item, meaning you cannot use both the item that makes you ignore terrain and a movement item. Antony can forgo that and just equip the golden spear, the scepter or the crown. That makes his item choices really flexible. If Huo or Arminius had march, then there would be an argument. But since they don't, i'll consider Antony above them. No one in the game can match Antony's mobility, and the only one coming close to him that are also strong are Crassus and Pompey. And why is mobility so important? In GCR, having a stronger unit is better than having a strong general, that is why even if you place a general like Tigranes II in a War chariot, he will still wreck, and hannibal in a light cavalry will take a lot of damage against heavy cavalry and Marksmen, and will even lose against special units such as War chariot unless he deals a critical strike. Antony in slow units like War elephants, or even generic heavy cavalry will make them as mobile as light cavalry, with high defenses and damage. Also, Antony's skill set revolve around open battles and to siege defenseless cities, and isn't meant to take unnecessary damage unless needed, and so using him to attack cities defended by strong generals isn't a good idea. That's where generals like Crassus, Hannibal and Archers come in.

If you gave him a strong item like the golden spear (I can’t remember what its called but it boosts both crit and base damage), that would probably fix half the problems with him.

Friedrich “Fried Rice” Paulus, golden spear solves his damage problem. Although if placed in a high tier cavalry unit he'll do damage just fine. Laurel crown is a substitute, so is the crossbow and item that gives +15 atk. You can give him the scepter and let him assist allies, although I haven't done it yet, considering it costs 1100+ medals, and I only have 46 medals atm

Probably arminius should also be added. The issue I see is that when people buy arminius or ver, most people think they are “average” and end up either regretting their purchase or selling them back. This would probably change in the update. And even tho anthony is disliked by dsongop, he is still the highest rated cavarly general pretty much in the game, so taking him off here would probably not be smart. I mean, we all do love cavarly and need someone to put on it.

7th Member: Bato Bato is a great general found in the silver tier category. He possesses Vercingetorix’s survivability, while only losing his jungle fighting in terms of average damage, and roar for crits. However, Bato has many redeemable qualities. Like Pompey, Bato also possesses both march and shield wall, perfect for the flag. He also has the unique combination of both ambush and shield wall, possessing the highest possible survivability on an infantry general. He fixes the issue of Vercingetorix’s crappy movement and is even an arguably better purchase than him. Only bad thing is that his talent is one of the genuinely bad ones in the game. Overall, Bato Ver Pompey and Crassus are so good, you won’t need to make your free general an infantry general (but many of us do anyway)! *if there are many people against this decision, I’ll move him back to honorable*

8th Member: Commius Commius is a cavarly general commonly compared to Pacorus I. While pacorus I is the best starting general as seen by most, commius is a pretty good upgrade to pacorus. He is given the skill siege which is really good, especially on a cavarly unit, 8 max stars in cavarly, and more hp. I’d say that if you enjoy using pacorus but want to upgrade him, I’d say to trade him in for Commius instead, and bring him up to consul. With a strong item such as a crossbow, Commius is one of the strongest cavarly generals in entire game.

First up, we have Pompey. Everyone likes him. The worst insult I have heard towards Pompey is that he is “2nd best infantry general,” whereas for many others he is in first. This is no secret either. He is fast due to march. He hits hard due to infantry commander, 10% crit rate, and plain fighting. He has great defense due to shield wall. Buying him is never a bad idea. Wait, who was the guy/guys who boldly claims that Pompey is the 2nd best infantry gen? There was a bunch of people who hyped up vercingetorix up a lot initially as easily the best general at the early stages of great conqueror rome, and pompey in second. Even the youtubers bruchminati and juljas did. I think know that more time has passed, people tend to prefer pompey more

The more I think about it, the more bato seems to be the better option over vercingetorix. To that you might say “isn’t it cheaper to buy verci as he is a general whereas bato is a legatus, saving you ~245 medals.” Thats definitely true. But remember, Bato has lvl 3 ambush whereas Verci only level 2, that alone costs 35 x 4 = 140 medals to fix. So the medal difference between Bato and verci is 105 medals in favor for ver.
Furthermore, Bato has the potential to outrun Vercingetorix by at least a hex if you upgrade his march by one ability and give him the flag. As they have essentially the same talent (both are useless) and survivability, you are pretty much trading roar and jungle for march. Ver lack’s the mobility, especially on heavy infantry, to be given a golden ring for his roar skill, which is the reason why most players use “oration on him.” If you plan on doing this, than by all means get ver. However, for others, that may seem like a huge pain that isn’t worth the trade off to add one more hex of movement (myself included, its too tedious for me)
So when it comes down to it, its jungle vs march. Personally, I think that march is a bit better as you will get a general who is faster and good at soaking up damage. While jungles are common, you will have a hard time finding them in areas such as the desert. Plus since bato has ambush, he’ll most likely end up taking less casualties than his foe in most scenarios. Imo here Batonwins.
Finally, many players like the idea of buying crassus and pompey. Bato will compliment them much better than ver as he is as fast as them potentially. You will most likely want to give your pf flag to pompey, as he is the only notable general in the game (except Labienus) who possesses pf as his bonus. It will work better for pompey to have additional damage. As crassus will most likely have the siege + tunnel flag, this would be a perfect addition to bato’s skill set.
I personally feel for this reason, it is smarter to buy Bato over Vercingetorix. With lvl 4 ambush, lvl 5 shield wall and March, Bato will be a very strong general on your team.
