Can they make it without skill books? Yes but you will need to upgrade the skills of Sheridan, grant, Meade and burnside. The total price is around 200.000 gold but you can sell them when you’re done |

I'm a bit iffy on Mackensen being better than Joffre. I'm still not really a fan of Mountain on cavalry. And moltke really doesn’t deserve blue I respectfully disagree. He is a good 3rd cavarly general who is pretty strong (after swapping counter for jungle). He is no sidney, plummer, jackson, or ludendorf, but outside of those 4, there isn’t anyone far better. Stepanovic is way more expensive and you will need 15 textbooks at least to make him good. Why not put them on moltke instead and save the 700 medals. The other general close to being as good is Mccellan and having tons of auras running around is not the way to go. Granted you can make mccelllan far better, but... why waste the medals and textbooks. He is very fast too. Nikolaevich is another contester but moltke has massive combined ability in comparison. He will be quite good for a long time. He is also useful for history mode. After history mode, I agree you can swap him for someone better. But why bother? |

Lets run through his skills Manuever: terrible Station: unneeded, just spam milita to hold and capture cities. Edge: good but there are better skills Plain fighting: jungle is way better. Riding master: uneeded 3/5 really bad skills, and 2 okay skills Now lets run to mackensen’s skills Strike: best cavarly skill Mountain: good cavarly skill Manuever: horrible Counter: horrible Inspiration: meh He isn’t better by much but he is still better. But in order to make mackensen stand out over moltke you have to waste 30 textbooks which is not worth it. For joffre, its impossible to make him ideal. At best, if you give him surprise and strike, he will hit hard but will be a turtle. If you give mackensen surpise and jf, he will be as hard hitting as joffre while also not being a turtle. Seems kind of obvious who is better to me. Though stepanovic, joffre, and mackensen pale in comparison with other generals like sidney. If you give sidney 15 textbooks, he will be a second stonewall jackson. |

Because, you see, normally I wouldn’t buy Burnside for my main team. But if helps getting me through History Mode, then yes I’m getting him.
