Replace Riding Master and Alert with Precision Strike and Surprise Attack. He will be amazing. British Stonewall Jackson.

He seems like the best candidate so far to decimate the enemy's artillery in forests In my opinion, it’s useless for cavalry. Artillery doesn’t do that much damage to cavalry, and there isn’t Rocket Artillery around to inflict heavy damage. There are Krupp Cannons, sure, but they are far rarer than Rocket Artillery (Which was a unit that any country aside from the natives could use).

Scared me for a moment... now they have rocket artillery in 1917

If alert was defined the same as it was b4 the update, then wouldn't it be quite futile when you attack them?Idk I'm still waiting for the update

I don’t get why everyone is saying that Alert is a good skill for land generals. For admirals, it’s essential, yes. But why for land?

It lets you work as a navy hybrid and saves you a pretty significant amount of HP should you cross a strait (very relevant) or are bombarded by artillery and navy. It’s the best survivability skill imo as it’s far more reliable than cover and ambush, though those are handy to have. It grew on me a lot in 1804 and I regard it as a really solid skill, though not worth having over some damage skills or the like, but it’s a low priority to switch out for me.

Crossing straits isn’t rocket science.
