Interesting! Never noticed the last note Sometimes I think there are only 2 units, artillery and cavalryπ! Infantry are short range artillery with geography and can build fortifications. Forts are static artillery. Ships are special movement artillery. Artillery are just artillery. BUT Cavalry can multi attack. Since the goal of campaigns is generally to kill a powerful general and take his city, their functions are not too different. In conquest mode the objective is kill as many of the enemy as soon as possible, only cavalry can meaningfully speed up the conquest as they can kill faster than the AI can spam. In conquest mode, the number one tactic should be- how can I get my cavalry an additional attack?

So I guess I need to change my strategy

Use forts and distanced artillery and ships to weaken full strength AI single hex range units (light forts, infantry, cavalry) because they can't get counter attacked.
Use infantry to attack damaged units. High health, cheap cost allow them to absorb damage.
Use cavalry to finish red and orange units. Try to kill several each turn.
For artillery, ships, and forts you need different tactics.

Coastal forts:Coastal forts have an 50% bonus against ships. I don't thing against land troops on water (they have a -20% output). If an attack from sea is necessary, I use guards ( cavalary ). For a general with the sailor-skill, or an armoured carrier, an attack from sea or land is equal. (Steersmen -10% dmg wont be active) I have to update the overview... I ask for more patience. Many thanks for the great additions !
