Erich Von Manstein never failed. The only reason why he lost The Battle Of Kursk was because Hitler removed almost all of his forces to send to Africa. LOL, moving forces from the east to go to Africa? That's hilarious! And no, Manstein never failed majorly. gotta give props to Marshal Bagramyan as the most underappreciated Soviet general there is. So underappreciated that he was court-martialed by STAVKA twice. Him as well as Novikov, who single-handedly commanded the entire red Air Force during WW2

For one thing, his pessimism of the war in general (get it, in General) and also the most brilliant loss of the war, perhaps of all time. Read up on Iwo Jima, and it is just astounding how good his strategy was. I feel that allied generals were not as competent as of their axis counterparts because they had the industrial might of their country. Exception - Zhukov. Slim is also a good exception.

Also how the hell has Manstein not recieved any more votes? Yes He had a stronger army than Rommel but his actual strategic planning was much better than Rommel's, who only knew how to flank. Manstein could launch direct assualts, pincer movements, attacking retreats... There was literally nothing he couldn't do. Mark my words, had Manstein been given overall command of the Wehrmacht after Brauchist was sacked, the war would be over by 1943. In conclusion, It's Manstein 100% Manstein was a strategist, while Rommel was a tactician. It is like comparing apples to oranges. Actually, Manstein also was a tactician, best example is Seige of Sevastopol in which his army inflicted 14 times casualties than it took, that is way higher even if Soviets threw soldiers against Germans, it is higher than the atio casualties inflicted to attackers in trenches of Western Front.
