What if the Axis Powers won the Second World War?
How different would our world had been if the axis powers had won the World War II. If we think about it a bit deeply, the axis powers or at least Germany had almost pulled of a win in two ways.
1. Hitler got all of Europe under his control except Britain after the fall of France in 10th May 1940. Also, the US and the USSR did not made their entry into the war then. Britain did not had any allies left. Focusing wholly and solely on Britain could have brought him a win.
2.Attacking Soviet Union was not a blunder. But attacking it on June 22,1941 was a blunder. This is because the winter was about to set in there. Attacking them maybe on February or March the next year or if they went according to their original plan could have brought him a win.
Hitler did had a few reasons to attack the Soviets. Firstly, after the fall of France, Britain was putting a stiff resistance. Moreover, the Soviets may had superior numbers but they had they had inferior quality of tanks and planes. Most of them were outdated.
A part of his defeat was also due to his main allies - Italy and Japan.
Italy had performed poorly in the Mediterranean region forcing Hitler to send some of his troops there. Even though Japan was an ally of Germany, Hitler mustn't have declared war on America after the Pearl Harbor incident.
So for Hitler to win the war, Operation Sea Lion(attack on Britain) and Operation Barbarossa
must had been successful. Also if he had made America to be neutral, then after capturing USSR and subduing the British, his time has come.
Assuming that all of this is done and Hitler wins the World War 2 then, how would our world look like?
Axis allies like Finland, Bulgaria and Romania will be incorporated into the German Reich and they will be given special privileges to the people of these countries. There will be a different cold war a few decades after World War 2. Here, Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan will be the two new superpowers. Once again, there will be a bipolar world.
Nazi Germany's atrocities on Jews will continue until they become 'extinct'. Democracy will almost be pushed to death. All the allied colonies will be taken by the Axis. Decolonization becomes even more slow and also, these newly independent countries will be forced to take a non-democratic route. Nazis will discriminate and recruit only Germans at most of the important jobs, thus, vastly under using the huge talent pool at their disposal. By the 1960, the Americans start protesting against Nazi atrocities
By the 1960, the Americans start protesting against Nazi atrocities and start demanding for independence. Italy gives in quickly, but the Nazis refuse to do so. A bitter war starts between America and Germany but this time, America has nukes which it has been secretly developing and now, both the sides threatens to nuke each other resulting in MAD(Mutually Assured Destruction). Though scores of people have fought and died from the both the sides, none of them use nukes.
By 1964, the Nazis give in, but demand a lot of concessions which Americans accept. But, a few years from then, America abolishes these concessions and a trade war between these two countries start. Remember that the American economy was well developed then and in my opinion, would fight a trade war. This will send the world economy into a downward spiral. Eventually, both of them reach an agreement though none among the two follows it and the hostilities continue among them. Here, the Nazi Germany's economy is large because of the many number of countries it controls.
In the Asian theater, Imperial Japan becomes the fastest growing and largest economy. The world will not witness the partition of India but rather, the partition of the Soviet union. The Soviets will be divided into east and west USSR with the west being under the Nazis and the east under the Japanese control. China will be a patchwork of many small countries under the Japanese control. India will be an autocratic country but the protests made by the people, led by Mahatma Gandhi. But these become ultimately crushed. Similar uprisings occur in South Korea and in some ASEAN countries. Though they kept under control, guerrilla warfare continued all through through the areas under Axis control. Socialism and Communism becomes a thing of the past as the USSR will placed under autocratic rule. It will become the Germany of the real timeline.
By the 1970s, Japanese empire's economy decrease and gets stalled in a few years. The Nazis become the fastest growing economy for a brief period thus ending the cold war between Japan and the Nazis. Soon, America overtakes Germany to become the world's fastest economy. America then starts funding the guerrilla warfare in the Axis occupied areas, especially in the Nazi Germany. America exploits the vast talent pool and thus, noses ahead from the Nazis. The Italian empire, meanwhile, grants independence to most colonies but fiercely crush the uprisings in economical and resources rich areas like her colonies in the middle east. America develops cutting edge technology and science, thus, competing neck and neck with the Nazis.
Japan senses trouble then starts cooperating and eventually, allies with the US. But it receives the US support only on the condition that its colonies be granted independence. Japan reluctantly agrees on it to prevent her further destruction. During this time, countries like India, Australia, Korea(still united since there is no Korean war) Malaysia, China, east USSR, New Zealand, Middle east, African colonies and the small Islands in the pacific are granted Independence, though, China still remains a patchwork of numerous small states. They still have a strong influence in the middle east. The decolonization of this period starts late. The Japanese masses are against the decolonization and despite help from US, they did not benefit much. Seeing the prosperous potential of democracy in the US, the Japanese overthrow their old regime and establish a new democracy in Japan. This brings the end of the Imperialist Japan.
Seeing, this all the colonized nations ramp up their effort for independence. Italy will finally gives independence to all its colonies but the Nazis are still strong and a new cold war between America and Germany starts. Democracy is promoted all over the world. But now, a crisis occurs in Germany. Hitler's health starts deteriorating and he breathes his last by 1975, ensuing an internal power struggle.
