What if the Axis powers had won the World War II (Part 2)
Now, Hitler's death has started an internal power struggle among his successors. I can't predict his successor as we can't say who will succeed him at that time. The new leader gives some more rights to people but the basic freedom still is not granted to the people. Taking, advantage of this internal struggles and weakness, many countries push for independence. France, Britain, Brazil and Spain and are granted independence. But still many colonies like those in Central Africa and Middle East are still under the Nazis control. Guerrilla warfare becomes more intense in east USSR, Central Europe and Africa. Though they are crushed, they become a sort of money-sucking black holes. Though the economy is still growing at a good rate, it is not enough to keep up with the huge empire. People, having tasted freedom, hit the streets and starts protesting especially in the German occupied regions of Europe. It now comes to be known as the '21st century revolution of democrats', which will be widely studied like the 1848 Revolution of the liberals. The Germans then introduce Umstrukturierung and Offenheit (similar to the Glasnost and Perestroika- the changes made by Mikhail Gorbachev during his term as the Soviet leader.). Also, homicide will become less intense and less frequent.
On the other hand, America keeps oozing ahead of Nazis in both economically and technologically. Militarily, they start inching closer to Germany. Many newly independent countries wants to collaborate and work with America. NATO will not be formed now because an American alliance with France, Britain and Spain will most likely infuriate the Germans. Instead, America forms an alliance with Indo-Pacific countries namely India, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Malaysia. Another pact also will be formed with the Indo-China countries like Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar etc. Japan will be an outside member of these pacts as the US still does not trusts Japan. The first decade of the 21st century is marked by the Chinese unification. China opts to be a democratic country. Since the idea of Communism is long gone with the division of Soviet Union, there will be no influence of communism anywhere in the world though there may be places in the world where autocracy exists.
India takes place of China of the current world and becomes the Asian superpower. With a young population and a ballooning economy, it becomes the fastest and the fourth largest economy. Though it may not take the place of current China as the modern world as the manufacturing factory of the world, its living standards rise along with Per Capita income. Even other countries like the NZ and Australia, which gained early independence, raise their living standards considerably. But India takes the most advantage. Japan kick starts its economy due to support from the US. Italy, being in isolation, collapses due the unstable government and conflicts between the conservatives and democrats. It gets torn apart to form two countries between the fascist forces and democrats.
All these developments starts taking a toll on Germans. Few trading partners, aging population, internal power struggles and revolts by the people. The Military of the Nazi Germany takes advantage of this and overthrows the fascist government by 2010. They withdraw all the freedoms and concessions granted by the previous government. A bitter civil war, between the military and the civilians start. To overthrow the military government in Germany, countries like America, India and a few other countries secretly send aid to the civilians as they see it as an opportunity to end fascism and homicide. Ironically, Japan also sends aid to the civilians fighting there. Eventually, the military backs down and a few years after the military rule, a democratic government with a universal suffrage to all adults is setup. The once dominant Third German Reich collapses with most of its colonies being granted independence. East USSR joins hands with the already independent and democratic west to form the USSR, it was once known as. Many African and Middle east countries, however, like the present timeline have a mixed record.
