THE SPACE RACE
All right. I could not resist bringing up this one.
Space race in this alternative scenario, will be a more compressed one. The first satellite to go into the space will be from Germany with Japan following. That's most probably will start in the 1960s. Germany concedes it's lead due the war with America(for Independence). Japan takes complete advantage of this and sends the first man and woman into the space along with the first living being. Then, with its economy getting plummeted, funds for Space Research and development gets dried up. After the war when Germany becomes the fastest growing economy, it retakes its lead with the first orbiter, rover and then finally the first man on the moon. America joins the space race by taking its first person to space. NASA will most likely be similar to that of today's ISRO- High profile missions completed with low costs. Though America starts slow in the Space Race, NASA's operations skyrocket when it gets more funds as its economy begins to grow. By 2000's, it also launches its first orbiter, rover and even the first man on the moon. By this time, the Germans, unlike the Soviets of our timeline, has already been preparing from the last decade about an interplanetary mission with a rover and also for the first man to step on another planet, most likely Mars.
This is a huge risk taken by them. Seeing them take a huge risk, NASA decides to go ahead with its similar to the Germans. But the German Space Research stumbles as the military takes control of the country. With funds drying up, they cannot go ahead with their plans, giving Americans valuable time to catch up. Once in a few years, when a democratically elected government takes control, fresh funds starts to flow once again and now NASA and the Germans compete neck and neck for the ambitious project. Then, by 2025, both the launches would been taken up.
India, on the other hand, becomes the third nation vying for the Space. Being a fairly developed country, pretty large and fast economy, it develops itself into a technologically in the matter of Space. It will develop the cutting edge technology at low cost, not at the same level as compared to today, but still, considerably cheap and sustainable. It develops its own plans for moon landing by 2030 and Mars by 2045. Japan, after a gap of 50-60 years, enters the Space race. It prepares for building a base on the Moon by 2055.
Technology is developed very quickly in this alternative world- In the 20th century by the US and the Nazis and Japan to out compete their rivals and then the momentum gets carried into the 21st century, but this time, for the sustainability of the Earth and the attractive investments in Space. We may see less pollution as technology will develop more quickly and sustainability.
