Mithridates and Cleopatra Now it is time to complete my team of archers. Cleopatra is basically Octavian-lite. She's nowhere near top tier archers, but she can do a decent job as an Archer general while being useful in AI-controlled naval battles. Mithridates, on the other hand, is the best archer in the game if used properly. In real life he wasn't a great general, neither was he a benevolent ruler or a real rival of Rome. He killed his mother, his brother, his sister, his nephew, his wife and a couple of his children. He organised one of the first genocides in history. And his armies were severely beaten by Sulla, Lucullus and Pompey whenever Romans could find time. Yet, in GCR he's really good. Equipped with a crossbow in campaigns and conquests or with a crown in AI-controlled battles he will do wonders, because his overall damage is really great. Provided, of course, that we can keep his moral high...

Now, when I have enough generals with high moral I need a couple more with a stable damage without moral factors. Both Arminius and Huo are quite good, unfortunately some of their key abilities are moral dependent. The same is true for Vercingetorix and Agrippa. So, my choice is Scipio and Labienus. They are not shining stars of GCR, yet they are reliable generals with rather universal sets of skills. Scipio, for example, equipped with a crossbow is a force to be reckoned with. And Labienus has 3 useful skills as well. Meantime I completed Decisive battle of "Sicilian rebellion" campaign, and so far it was the most difficult decisive battle, because almost all chapters are AI-controlled naval battles. Doubtful pleasure to watch , yet I am happy that it is done already.

I'm glad you use Scipio. Do you use him over Antony?

Scipio may be better than Antony in decisive battle, but Antony is much better than him in Campaign, Conquest and Expedition. In decisive battle, Antony's mobility is almost a hinderance while Scipio's counterattack and raid become much more useful. I personally treat campaigns and conquest as the "game" part of GCR while decisive battle is the "farming" part of GCR. So, I prefer Antony to Scipio. Also, Arminius is much better than Scipio when you actually have some control over what is happening.

Rushing to Mutina), Navy, price performance, and really anything except for conquests, where Antony is better for Speedruns and Huo (Scipio 1.1) for other ones. Speed really isn't great. Huo would be my second Choice, as he is a more expensive, very slightly worse Scipio, and then Arminius, then Wei, then Lastly Antony.

Huo would be my second Choice, as he is a more expensive, very slightly worse Scipio, and then Arminius, then Wei, then Lastly Antony. 1. Scipio is not a city cracker. If you need a city cracker, Crassus is 4 times better than him (85 extra damage with banner+max skills vs 20 extra damage with banner+max skills). Also, Antony is a better damage dealer even against cities because of Calvary Commander. 2. Farming. Ok so Scipio is better than Antony is decisive battle, but he is worse in all other modes. 3. I find the best way to withstand a siege is to rush out and kill them before they trap you in the city. Also, in rushing to Mutina, I found the best option for a perfect clear was to rush forward and take the cities in front of your key points. 4. Navy is kinda irrelevant. All scipio has is counterattack, and you are generally trying to land and take key points, not to fight at sea so Antony's mobility comes in handy. If you don't have Agrippa or Cleopatra, Pompey and Commander are better because they can have 7 stars in navy. Even Crassus and Huo are better than Scipio at sea. 5. Price Performance. Scipio is 80 medals cheaper than Antony. They are both general rank. Antony starts with 4 lvl 3 skills while Scipio has 1 lvl 3 and 3 lvl 2 skills. It costs 4 scrolls to upgrade a skill from 2->3 so Antony has an advantage of 12 scrolls. 12 scrolls of any type is costs much more than 80 medals so Antony is actually cheaper and still better. 6. Speed is really great. Speed is key in a lot of missions especially in the endgame. I love using Crassus-Pompey-Antony-Commander to capture city after city at lightning speeds. 7. Huo is Scipio except instead of Charge and Street Fighting he has Guerilla and Assault. Assault is on average better than Charge and Guerilla is a great survivability skill. Street Fighting is 20 extra damage at max+banner which I think is much worse than Guerilla's 25% damage reduction. 8. Arminius is a better damage dealer than Scipio by a lot. Charge=Charge, Jungle Fighting>=Street Fighting, Guerilla>Counterattack, Assault>>>Calvary Tactics, and Garrison>Raid because Raid is suicidal. 9. Wei is suicidal. Brave and Raid are both good for attacking a General with a larger army and getting obliterated. You take care of Generals with larger armies with Archers not suicidal calvary. Breakthrough is useless, and Calvary commander is all Wei has. He is MUCH MUCH worse than Antony so I can't see how anyone would rather have him than Antony.

In decisive battle, an argument can be made that 98 medal Pacorus is better than Scipio. Inspire is better than counterattack on defense, Street fighting is useless in decisive battle, Inspire>Charge on attack, Raid=Raid, Inspire gives +5% base critical rate which is half of Calvary Tactics' 10% and Guerilla>5% critical rate. Finally, Scipio could be in low morale so that gives Pacorus an even larger advantage.

I have a much slower and more stolid playtime than you. I find it to be too risky to play hyperaggressively.

Tbh calvary speed is decent by default, I have Antony and in campaigns his fully speed isn't "needed" except in very specific missions. If you use all his speed he is gonna be alone and his survivality sucks because deals worse damage in counter attacks than many other calvary gens.
So in the end he isn't a city cracker lacks defence and power, all he has is speed and calvary commander. Is that enough to be a top tier calvary general?
Considering calvary is fast by default, has a chance to attack again by default, many use a calvary build on commander (fast and powerful) and there are many speed items to use in specific missions to gens like commander or pompey...hmmm i don't think so.

Gerd von Rundstedt, it seems that I have made my points and you have made yours, but we are unable to achieve a consensus. I suggest we drop this because I don't see a point in continuing an unresolvable argument.

You have some points, and with the new mobility items I agree that Arminius could be a viable replacement for Antony. Still, I think you should get both+maybe also Huo. Personally, I got both of them when I completed the game a while back before the existence of artifacts. Still, speed is nice for positioning in general and if you want to perfect clear those very specific missions, you still have to get him. Also, Antony has charge which you overlooked.

Another naval battle is completed and I got another excellent item (especially great for Huo, Mithridates or Arminius in combination with laurel crown) It is a pity we get them so late in the game though...
