"Never say never", - so they say it. I said couple of times already: "enough is enough"... I replayed EW5 so many times that I can hardly recall all my runs in details. Yet, ET surprised me once more and I feel in my gut that the new campaign mode will be a real challenge. Besides, I didn't beat all Asgard missions on my previous run, so I have a couple of debts to pay. Let's get ready to rumble...

There is an obvious path, btw, for experienced players as we discussed it with Iron Duke. No-one has completed the game with awakened generals yet, or, at least, they haven't played an important part in it. So, my idea this time is too use as many of them as first team players as often as possible. Perhaps too many "as" in one short sentence, but I hope you got the picture Unfortunately, we don't have any worthy Infantry general amongst awakened ones, so I plan to do it with 3 flexible lines: Cavalry; Archers; Artillery. My roster will be (including bench players): Cavalry: Syriothai, Attila, Hannibal, Blucher. Archers: Pachacuti, Mulan, Li, Nelson, Katherine, Mocte. Artillery: LiShimin, Khalid, Bismarck. I will need a couple more to complete my 16 players team for arena, but most likely they will be cheap gray or blue generals.

I see we have a new slot for equipment (top right corner of the portrait). Am I right? And how does it work?

Indeed, and in hard mode, you have to face off with additional enemies of Greek or Norse origins who are compulsory targets to take out. However, you do get to deploy numerous Princesses, perhaps up to six. In the same mode, there are "cities" which you have to build. Afterwards, you'll be besieged by enemies and you'll have to survive. These enemies contain creatures of Legend and enemy gens may have golden equipment sets. As for your team, getting Awakened Pachacuti takes too long and a lot of effort. My endgame team of 8 requires and additional eight endgame gens to attempt to beat Legion mode players in the Arena. Grinding the normal mode might be a more feasible option, but getting to a high Tier quickly is impossible.

This is something I was thinking about yesterday actually, we (by which I mostly mean "I") need to give more consideration to the bench players, not only for the Arena but there are also several missions in hard mode so far where we can field more than 8 generals, and of course they will come in handy for the dreaded Greek Trial III too. So I think we'll still need a first VIII of elites for the more familiar campaigns, but we'll also need a higher quality squad of reserves than in previous runs.

I see this paradigm shift in what we call a "team" since those Trials and arena battles were released. It is definitely not enough nowadays just to say: "my 8 generals will be this and that...". So, we (by which I mostly mean "we" ) have to pay attention to this issue. I already have several generals in mind including Belisarius, for example. I don't want to pay a fortune for bench players, but, on the other hand, they should be reliable and useful. Quite tricky, tbh...

Lincoln is a cheap anti-cav unit I use. Then, came Awakened Mulan, Awakened Beowulf, Cleopatra, Jhansi, 5* Awakened Suriyothai, Yoshitsune and 5* Alexander. Catherine and 5* Moctezuma were reserves or specialists that also played a major role.
Beowulf and Lincoln have their roles and were deployed in Legion mode based on circumstance while Yoshitsune was eventually dropped.
Right now, I'm looking at Joan for her arty resistance skill as Koxinga is a common arty gen used.

She and Petain are now the two favorites as tanker for arena.

She and Petain are now the two favorites as tanker for arena. In fact, it is not out of the question... My thoughts are far from arena now, because it is locked, and I have no idea when we unlock it. But since I will not upgrade Alex and Barbarossa (and this was my usual move at this stage) I need cheap substitutions to play campaigns, since I can't advance with only Attila, Hannibal and Mocte. I am really intrigued by repeating one of my previous experiments. I called it "field hospital" when I used Caesar and Mocte together. It is less efficient in AI-controlled battles, I presume, but it was quite helpful elsewhere. Now Joan can take the place of Caesar. I recall Iron Duke experimented with this setup, but was rather disappointed and replaced Joan eventually. But since it is only a temporary solution it well may work. I will promote Mocte to lvl 5 and upgrade his first two skills anyway, so investments in Joan won't ruin my budget.

Both of which are better than cure and shelter.
