Retrospection 20: Operation Totalize Normal: Take all cities and defeat at least 20 enemies by Turn 8. Gens used: Messe and Pavlov on starting tanks, Schmidhuber on spawned 3× heavy tank, Horton and Leeb on starting RA, Darlan on spawned 3× Hoiwtzer, Helfrich on eastern mechanized inf, and Wainwright on Hawkeye. We start with all Canadian troops surrounding two British 3× heavy tanks. Messe, Leeb, and Helfrich attacked the NE city while Pavlov, Horton, and Wainwright attacked the W city. Schmidhuber probably attacked towards the W city while Darlan spawned in the NE city. Taking the NE city causes morale to rise. Perhaps it's also true for the W city. Rush the cities. Once the provinces about the fortress is taken, use the money to spam bunkers to encircle them. Use paratroopers to capture, if needed. Spawn armoured cars in the W or SW city against enemy tanks.
Hard: Take all cities and eliminate at least 20 enemies, while protecting Simmonds who is not under our command. WIP. Still looking for a way to defend Simmonds when a base Wittman spawns on Turn 4. Quite likely after we take this or that key towns Wittman diverts his attention to them becoming an easy target. After that Simonids' safety is no longer in doubt and the rest is easy.

I tossed in my elite gens and instead, Simmonds rushed in after I took the NE and W cities! He got himself killed beside the fortress instead. Ironic. Perhaps I do need a medic immediately.
Edit: The medic and stoic's recommendations worked. Wittman remains a spawn option even past Turn 3-4. Lift the siege and he will show. I was forced to throw in my elite gens and a Priest just to finish this quickly. It might not be a beginner friendly battle. Not sure if an intermediate player can win with a cautious strategy besides Rumour traps and holding at the starting position.

The 21st Retrospection: The Falaise Pocket Normal: Conquer all cities and eliminate at least 25 enemies by Turn 9. Gens used: Except given Monty. I summoned Chennault on a 1× howitzer in Flers to use air attacks. I sent Schmidhuber, Messe, and Darlan to the W city to ensure that it falls and to farm enemies, but I'm unsure if it's needed. Monty, Leeb, and Horton moved towards Flers. Pavlov supported the Canadians against Falaise. During the AI's Turn 3, Kluge orders a retreat. Take this chance to seize the cities in the pocket and eliminate enemies! They will suffer 1× low morale. I think friendly AI morale will become high. Pavlov must hold against Model's counterattack on Falaise. The rest must rush to his rescue. I sent Darlan and Messe towards Argentan and the SE city. Note: The NE city cannot be reached by paratroopers from Flers (except by Skytrain). Keep someone like Horton with full mobility (4*) in range (2 hexes east or NE of Falaise). If you do not wish to take Falaise for yourself, drop paratroopers to block the way. I held Falaise, Argentan, and the NE city until Messe and Darlan opened the SE cityfor Patton.
Hard: Take all cities and defeat at least 35 enemies including Model on a King Tiger and Kluge on a Gustav. Gens used: Falaise fell in Turn 1 to Leeb and Pavlov's attacks. Pulled the inf northwards, and sent the rest to assist Falaise. Model will launch a counterattack. Schmidhuber to hold the area between the Falaise province and the British province to clear the area, while waiting to see if he needs to attack Kluge. Kluge falls to the Americans at the same time as Kluge's call to retreat. This is when the fortress starts to spew out tanks and arty like nobody's business. Pavlov managed to sneak away to capture Argenten, followed by Messe. Then, they took the SE on turn 10, while German tanks surrounded the NE city and fiercely attacked Falaise. You should have better gens and spawn him on an elite tank or arty to hold Falaise and the NE city. Otherwise, try to spam 2× light inf in the NE city and get the tank gens to hold Falaise. Warning: Model's morale cannot be dropped past neutral. Hit him hard with arty.

Operation Dragoon is number 22. Normal: Take the NW and SW cities by Turn 13, and defeat a King Tiger (Aix-en-Provence) and Type VIII Sub (near Toulon). Gens: Darlan (Richelieu), Messe, Horton, Leeb, and Schmidhuber on a spawned 3× medium tank. Land and take the nearest cities. Inf to march along the coast and the other two into the hinterland towards Aix-en-Provence. Spawn a sub and clear out the coast. Destroyer to circle south of the coastal fort on the island. Get used to the Richelieu to make best use of it. Once Toulon falls, spawn a tank for the firepower for the SW city. The King Tiger will move out when closing in on the city. Ambush it in the valley. Forgot about Helfrich, but he can be used on either remaining ship.
Hard: Same targets, and have at least 7 player troops (replaced the time limit). Note: Model and Doenitz command the elite troops respectively. Gens used: Pavlov on a T-44 (you can use a 2× medium tank as an alternative) and Similar strategy as before in terms of direction. I sent Horton to assist the French's overland attack. The rest to head to Toulon. Note: Apparently the Richelieu doesn't assist you even though you are a friendly power. Beware the enemy counterattack in cities in the rear and taking Aix-en-Provence before Model falls. Warning! Model cannot be in any demoralised state. Looks like you really need to keep the Priest gen alive.

Retrospection 23: Operation Jubilee Normal: Defend the 3 forts for 10 turns, while sinking at least 30 enemies and keeping at least 13 friendlies alive. Gens used: Helfrich on 2× sub, Darlan on the Special Force sub, Leeb on the Stuka, Messe on the mechanised inf and Wainwright on the engineer (mistake; should've been Pavlov and Messe respectively), Pavlov on the 3× howitzer, and Schmidhuber on the 2× howitzer. Friendlies include forts (coastal forts and the like, not the fortresses who are the targets) and troops. I built 3 coastal forts: 1 at each humps west of Dieppe and 1 on the easternmost coastal tile. Then, the focus was to hold the port to spam subs. Note: There is still a question of priority. Was building 2 subs along the west coast better than, perhaps, a 2× sub for deploying Horton? I moved Leeb to the east. Focus on the landing craft and cruisers. Destroyers will get themselves sunk under our fire and blocks the way for landing craft and cruisers to approach the coast. Beware! The eastern and central forts are at high risk. I attacked Mountbatten with Helfrich and Darlan, and Helfrich was sunk. Mountbatten managed to approach the port, but was sunk in time. At the same time, spammed subs held the port or area around it.
Hard: Destroy the 3 fortresses, take Dieppe and have at least 5 friendlies. Gens used: Mistake to put Pavlov there because Dieppe can be used to spawn a T-44. If you want to spawn a Priest instead, then, it's not recommended to put your best arty gen on the starting units. Keep the more important arty towards the edges of the map and sacrificial inf towards the centre. Land and help your other troops land. Nevermind the British landing troops. Never seen them attempt to land (saw one or two sail away when they could've landed). Our allies can only blast the central fortress using a cruiser, and they refuse to so that they can soften the enemies around Dieppe. Since Pavlov - who supported the landing of the inf on my west - was in range, he took Dieppe. I spawned a T-44 to hold it. Use 3 gens each and try to hug the fortresses. They keep spamming troops and these troops may try to push you away if you keep maneuvering. Start from the edges, then work towards the centre. Western forces to reinforce Dieppe. Eastern forces to attack the central fortress. The east did well to clear 2 fortresses on their own.

Battle of Kiev - Retrospection 24 Normal: Destroy the fortress behind Kiev by Turn 13, and defeat at least 30 enemies. Gens: Pavlov (King Tiger), Messe and Schmidhuber (3× HTs), Leeb (Stuka), Horton (super arty), Darlan (RA), and Wainwright and Helfrich (mecha inf). Pavlov, Leeb, and Messe attacked Kiev, and the rest attacked Cherkasy. You may assist with the southern edge of the line with the Cherkasy troops. Budyonny will attack through Kiev while Timoshenko passes through Cherkasy. Note: Budyonny cannot have his morale dropped below normal. Use rockets to suppress Budyonny and you may use Rumour to stun Timoshenko. Send Schmidhuber over the Cherkasy bridge. Support with the remaining troops. One mecha inf to hold Kiev just in case. Horton held Cherkasy in case of fire from across the river. You will defeat more enemies, if needed. Otherwise, the supporting troops can help to attack the fortress. The Kiev forces lined up to fire upon the fortress. Note: You can summon elite troops if you want. Or spam strategic bombers from Kiev.
Hard: Take all but the NE city, while defeating at least 60 enemies and the 3 fortresses. Gens: Helfrich on a mecha inf (KIA) and these guys: Pavlov, Leeb and Helfrich attacked the N city and helped NPC Rundstedt with the NW and NNW cities. Then, send them back to attack on our side of the river. Our allies can clear the rest of western bank. The rest attacked the NE and NNE cities. Then, they moved on the northern fortress. Spawn your best tank (I used Schmidhuber on a T-44, for example) available. Since the super tanks had 109 atk, I used my 3rd "best" tank gen on the T-44. This is where I made a mistake. The Soviets had large numbers to begin with and probably spam more troops over time. I should've attack the fortresses and cities instead of focusing too much on holding my own. Although our allies will draw the Soviets away, attacking the next fortress will attract them to you. Not to mention the spammed troops aiming to retake the northeastern cities. I spammed armoured cars, but if you have another tank or arty gen, it may be good to deploy another strong unit to hold our ground. Taking the eastern city causes all German morale to rise. Quickly use NPC Guderian and Leeb to storm Poltava and the southern city before time runs out. Our allies should've cleared all resistance and crossed the bridge by now.

Retrospection 25: Talinn Offensive Normal: One unit must reach the blue halo near Leningrad by Turn 8, and you must have at least 8 player units. Gens used: Used lvl 4 navy movement ribbons on Pavlov and Wainwright to get them moving. Otherwise, use your fastest gen on the medic / farthest mecha inf from Talinn. Deployed those two. The cruiser to draw fire and sub just in case more troops fell. I'm not sure if you will make it by Turn 8 if you landed early and marched overland, even if you have inf movement ribbons. Perhaps the medic will.
Hard: Sink all Soviet forces near Talinn but the destroyer in the port, while defeating at least 14 enemies and keeping 7 player troops. Gens used: Gave Horton and Darlan the lvl 4 navy movement ribbons and they easily caught up. They have maxed movement *s, by the way. It was a mistake to deploy Messe in the city and Wainwright outside, as opposed to Pavlov in the city and Messe outside. Another mistake was not to use Wainwright for amphibious operations in terms of supporting the overland march or attacking a Soviet ship. You ought to deploy your most powerful admiral on the fastest ship. IIRC, the destroyers are faster. If true, using subs over destroyers is recommended to catch up more quickly. Note: The enemy avoids combat, so don't rely on blocking them and to provoke your troops into launching a counterattack.

Retrospection 26: Battle of Alam el Halfa Normal: Hold the northern and central cities, defeat at least 35 enemies, and have at least 9 player troops. Gens used: Schmidhuber on 3× light tank and Pavlov handled the north alone. The rest moved to check Rommel's attack. The medic healed the centre and Schmidhuber can help in the centre. Confuse Rommel and defeat him. Aim to take down as many enemies as possible. Cleared with 42 enemies beaten, which is a small margin, IMO.
Hard: Eliminate all enemies by Turn 13, and have at least 8 player troops. Gens used: Schmidhuber on 3× light tank and Leeb, Helfrich, and Schmidhuber to assist the defence of our Italian allies. There will be a breakthrough of British tanks to the north to handle, and the central fort. The rest to sweep the southern city, Monty's city, and a tank will let our allies into the northern cities while the rest attack the fortress.

Retrospection 27: Blitzkrieg Normal: Take all of Poland by Turn 8 with at least 8 player units left. Gens used: They attack from west to east in this order. Once Lviv falls, send the southern force to aid in the attack on Warsaw and open a path to Bialystok. Used armoured cars to defend. If you've a powerful tank or arty gen left, you may deploy him on an elite force or lvl 2 factory. Our Soviet allies join at the start of AI Turn 7, but it's too late. The 2× morale drop may be useful.
Hard: Hold all of Poland and East Prussia for 13 Turns, while keeping Smigly safe. Can't give any advice other than deploy your best, and have an economic gen. Cold War era or UN normal gens should be the minimum because you need the firepower. You should take all German cities and encircle them with bunkers, otherwise, elite troops like King Tigers, Stukas, and numerous waves of troops will swarm you. Gens used: - Guderian (Pershing) - Rommel (T-44) - Konev (the howitzer special unit) - Leeb (3× howitzer) - Dowding (2× howitzer) - Horton (given medic) - Yamashita (3× motor inf)

The 28th Retrospection: March on Italy Normal: Take all cities but Naples and Rome, smash the fortress near Foggia, and win by Turn 12. Gens used: Schmidhuber on 3× medium tank and I sailed Horton around Italy. Helped to crack Taranto's defences and fire on enemies around Foggia. The rest are to sail and move up the peninsula in an anti-clockwise manner. Messe sailed the most because he has the least mobility. Taking the Italian cities compels troops within the province to surrender. If Germans take it, the troops within the province will not surrender. Use Monty on tough targets first, especially the fortress. He has a skill to mark enemies that he cannot defeat. Take care not to take Salerno too early or you'll win before blowing up the fortress.
Hard: Take all cities except Rome by Turn 10, and eliminate at least 15 enemies. Gens used: Pavlov on Hawkeye, Leeb on Priest, and Helfrich on medics. Land at the curve between the Italian and German zones. Sweep like you did in anti-clockwise direction. Messe stayed to attack Salerno, later healed by Helfrich on the medics. At the same time, Darlan supported the attack on ships near or the city of Salerno, before moving to attack Naples. Took Naples using paratroopers (Turn 9) and while Helfrich took Salerno (Turn 10), while Messe moved through Salerno to attack Foggia.

The Italian Invasion of Egypt is the 29th retrospection mission. Normal: Take the coastal cities and ports by Turn 12, with at least 7 troops left. Gens used: You can use Helfrich on the sub. Helfrich and Darlan's ships can also be different, such as Helfrich (1-2× sub) with Darlan (1× cruiser or 1-2× destroyer). Follow the coast and concentrate your fire power. That's it. I dropped two paratroopers in the final push.
Hard: Take all cities, while having at least 7 units and keeping Graziani alive. Gens used: Darlan on 2× destroyer Something similar. Maybe Leeb takes the Priest instead, or an elite tank is spawned. I recommend all elite tanks except the T-44. <Machine Gun> is a must for anti-inf purposes. Plus, all are cheaper than a 3× medium tank (has both the anti-inf property and ability to attack again after destroying an enemy). Messe and Leeb in this picture attacked Sallum. The rest to anchor the centre and south. The Allies will advance in waves, and you may halt just around Sallum. It is normal in my game. I think grinding the enemy down and defeating almost all land troops is required to secure out cities and advance overland. The ports can be held by subs, especially if the enemy cruisers are distracted by a garrison in Sallum. If you have an economic officer, like Dowding or Chennault, use him. The extra resource is good to use on fighters. Graziani charges in recklessly. Watch out! Also, spawn a medic just to ha handle him.

The Baltics Offensive is the 30th retrospection. Normal: Defend your two cities and seize the two cities to your north, as well as the SW city. Before you conquer all 5 cities, destroy 3 fortresses (1 SW, and 2 NE). Gens used: Helfrich on medics and Leeb attacked the SW fortress, and soon destroyed it with Messe's aid. Hold your western city against the initial enemy attack. After the fortress is destroyed, Messe + Leeb turned around to repel the attackers. Eastern city forces will repel the German attackers on the way to the city immediately north. Take it and resist the counterattack, especially from the forces and fortresses to the NW. I aimed my guns at the fortress to silence it. At this point, it would be wise to swing the elite howitzer over to smash the two fortresses. The western forces took the SW city. The Germans were ordered to retreat. The NW forces were 1× demoralised while the other troops were 2× demoralised. There is a chance that our allies will take Riga before the 3rd fortress falls. This is why moving the howitzer over early is needed.
Hard: Capture and hold all cities, and keep Schorner alive for 13 turns. Work in progress. Failed attempt: Gens used: Helfrich on medic Failed strategy: Attempt a 3-pronged attack on the NE, E, and SW cities. The northeastern offensive stalled and turned into a defensive stand until they could outlast the Soviet forces. The eastern offensive was overwhelmed by Soviet spam and they were outmaneuvered by troops who headed to Riga. The southwestern offensive succeeded, and Leeb returned to defend Riga. However, the SW port city fell and all friendly troops were demoralised. Moreover, follow-up spam started to overwhelm that region while the recapture was going poorly.
Solution: - the SW could have gone better if a tank gen replaced Darlan. The breakthrough would've failed, and we would have the initiative to close the gap. - The central forces could do better if Schmidhuber were replaced. Or one could defend Riga and the other to assist in the SW or NE regions. - There's probably no hope for the NE operation unless better commanders are used, or the SW operation succeeds. - Having an economic gen is highly recommended to be able to spam armoured cars. Successful attempt: Gens used: Pavlov retreated to Riga, Schmidhuber joined the NE team, and Schorner joined the SW team. Chennault anchors the SW city. The SW team took the most distant Soviet city and devastated their troops. Leeb returned to defend Riga. Schorner led the troops to take the S and SE cities, with Leeb's aid once the central Soviet attack failed. The NE team took the city and an armoured car spam began, holding it. They inch slowly towards the northernmost fortress. Leeb opened the eastern city and attacked the northermost fortress. Schorner encircled the SE fortress with inf. Friendly spam encircled the eastern fortress. The NE team encircled the NE fortress.

Retrospection 31: Operation Market Garden Normal: Hold at least two fortresses (one at Arnhem which is almost certain to fall, and two by Nijmegen), defeat at least 50 enemy units, and hold at least 5 out of 6 cities on the SW-NE direction of approach. Gens used: Schmidhunber (3× medium tank from Eindhoven, the nearest city; too late and far to contribute), Pavlov on Hawkeye, Messe on the HT, Leeb on the Priest, Horton on 3× howitzer (used the Skytrain to drop him beside Nijmegen), and Wainwright on the mech. inf. Follow the route and advance. I left Monty to anchor the central city against the central fortress. The rest aimed for Nijmegen. We need to pass through and hold the northern end of the northern bridge / fortress. It is needed to block Student and follow-up troops from Arnhem. The rest will deploy in and around Nijmegen. I recommed deploying an elite unit early on from Eindhoven. Either the howitzer to attack the central fortress or a tank.
Hard: Hold all fortresses and cities along the SW-NE route of advance and defeat at least 50 enemies. Gens used: Schmidhuber on 3× light tank (central city), Leeb on lvl 6 Priest (Eindhoven), and Horton on 2× howitzer (central city) + Leeb was sent to Nijmegen via a Skytrain. From there, once the path through Nijmegen is open, rush towards Arhem. Attack Arhem and take it. Wipe out Student. The rest will march along the axis and clear out enemies. Since the tunnel can only allow inf or the Priest to pass through, it is arguably pointless (because the main attackers should be tanks). Still, use it to get the Priest and inf to where they must be to open a path. The central city gens will be deployed (Horton first) and the other inf will hold the city. Tanks and Priest to keep moving to hold Nijmegen. Once Arhem is secured, Leeb should've moved to Nijmegen and Brooke on the original Priest should've returned to the central city. The central city is the most important rallying point. Beware of enemy troops passing through the bridge near the central city. This threatns the western city. Also, be careful of enemy troops bypassing the central city to attack the central north city. I failed to win with 3* on my first clear and try because a mecha inf unit took this city. I recommend having a resource gen to boost income. It's good to be able to spam troops to block the central plains or bridges, or to summon troops to prevent enemy inf from seizing key targets.
