I think Fleet Rome is as varianted as we should get Like what Quintus Fabius said, it doesn't help Italy. Only... it limits the options for him. It might help Austria, by making Italy predictibly defensive. It doesn't truly solve the Venice-Trieste problem. Transfering the Venice SC to Milan gives both countries an equal chance like the 5 others. That's about varianted maximum and yet vanilla as an initial Diplomacy game should be. Agreed. France also gets a bit nerfed here, so that's a plus.

I don't like Milan's tweak where Piedmont borders Burgundy, since that makes France too susceptible to the E-G-I smash. Other than that, Milan is great

Desophaeus, when will this start and how long will it go for (approximately)? Hmm, either it starts tomorrow or Friday, I prefer those two dates. I have a two day all-day orientation on Wed and Thurs from 7:30am to 5:00pm. I still can run a phase on each day even on those two ones. I think I will go ahead and start tonight. Right now, if you join, I have 4 people at the table. A normal game runs with 7 players controlling the 7 great powers. Now... I don't mind, I can go ahead with a different map that's smaller and fits 4 players perfectly. It probably would actually be easier for newer players to adjust to the idea of playing Diplomacy to be honest. I will make a quick sketch in a few hours. A power at North, West, South, and East. I lost my old Diplomacy files, but I should be able to reconstruct it. To answer your other question, I plan to have a initial run of 2 years (Year 1, Spring then Year 1, Fall then Year 2 Spring, then Year 2, Fall). It would be basically 4 phases long. Of course if all players wishes to continue, I will keep going, giving another 2 year extension. I can give plenty of extensions however often the group of players wishes it to be. Please understand that I only intend for this to be an expermination: a trial run to see if people would want to play a series of Diplomacy games while there's also TWs concurrently. I believe it's possible that there's enough people who wants Diplomacy so much like Quintus Fabius for example. Any other questions? Or suggestions? Comments are welcome too.

This game sounds great. I cant wait to do some of this backstabbing i heard so much about. Well... I suggest keep it at a minimum. A rule among the experienced: never stab to wound, stab only to kill.If you stabbed someone for a small gain, you made an enemy but it's a wounded and angry player that is still in a decent position to hold on and give you a rough time during the following war. You accomplish nothing but to set up yourself for a long and unproductive war against an enemy that is completely determined to avenge the stab (otherwise, that same enemy would have been a reasonable opponent who would agree to something if you and he are both stuck in a normal war that didn't went well). If you stab, you must stab someone in a way that completely cripples him to the point where he is helpless in a position so bad that he's definitely going to die within a phase or two, or... completely unable to fight back, like being a lone-SC player somewhere on an isolated island. He would be powerless in that position. In my past, I have done good stabs, and... in my inexperience, bad stabs as well...
