Here's what I used as my strategy throughout all the scenarios. (I reference the pacific and Atlantic theaters of war. The Pacific consists of western America, Australia, Mexico, Western Canada, and Eastern Asia. The Atlantic consists of Eastern America and Canada, Brazil, Africa, the Middle East, Western Asia, and Europe.)
1939-1944
Allies: In the Pacific kill off Thailand, as they can be an immensely useful asset against Japan, then crush Japan. Try to keep the Russians alive, if at all possible, and push through Russia and the Middle East into Europe. You an also try and take the neutral middle east, so that this task is easier. In the Atlantic, you want to crush Spain, while simply holding off Germany. Italy is more of an annoyance, so ignore them, if at all possible. Assault Africa with any extra cash you have left, because you don't want to spend too much on it. Africa tends to fall like a ton of bricks. Then kill off Germany, and, if your allies aren't already crushing them, go kill Japan.
Axis: In the Pacific, kill China and hold off the Americas and Australia. Then push into Russia and link up with Europe. Help them a little, but start your push into the Americas, either by starting with Alaska, then Canada, or neutral Mexico (or allied Brazil in 1945), then the West coast of America. In the Atlantic, kill France, then Britain (or just Britain, in 1945). Use these to push into Toronto, while sending a decently sized force to deal with Russia (Whether you hold them off or kill them, is up to you). Use Toronto to crush America and he Pacific powers. Africa is, again, a secondary objective, as it will most likely be compete chaos down there.
1950-1960
NATO: In the Pacific, try to kill Thailand again, then push into China. India will be a major issue in 1960, but they'll fall quickly once you deal with the artillery covering their main city. Then push into the relatively weak Russian flank and crush them from their. It's advised to deal with Africa and the Middle East quickly during all of this. Both can be deadly, when combined. In the Atlantic, kill Africa and Poland. Next move on to Moscow and the Middle East, focusing more on the Middle East. Then finally push into China.
WTO: In the Pacific, kill Japan, then Australia. Kill Europe progressively, if at all possible. Same for the Middle East and Africa. Assault Alaska and push into Canada using that. Then The U.S. and South America. In the Atlantic, Push into South America and Africa. There aren't really any WTO countries in the Atlantic, besides Egypt, Cuba, and Russia. Cuba and Russia use this and then push into the other parts of the Americas and branch wherever you want from here. Egypt should crush the Middle East and then push into Italy, Spain, and Greece.
Best countries
Note: These are the easiest countries. If you want difficulty, then pick another. I've done them all, so I know which ones you should really avoid, though. Why? Because some are uninteresting, or just extremely underpowered (Like Greece half the time )
1939-1945:
Three Star-America, Britain, Russia, Germany and Japan(Russia and Germany are better in 1945)
Two Star-Australia, China (debatably), Spain, and Egypt (debatably)
One Star-Norway (depending on your generals, to be honest), Thailand, and Hungary
1950-1960:
Three Star-America, Great Britain, and Russia
Two Star-France (Were they a two star? Either way, they were good), Italy, and India
One Star-Norway (try to keep the other Scandinavian powers alive for a bit), Hungary, and possibly Thailand (But I didn't enjoy the fall of Russia which occurred somewhat early on>).
General tips
-Abuse artillery and air support when it comes to enemy generals
-Most games can easily be won if you crush 95% of the enemies main push and the generals in said push
-Tanks are useful when you either need to taker a city or need cannon fodder
-ABUSE PARATROOPERS. They are OP. The enemy certainly will, anyways:/
-Infantry units are great, believe it or not. Just spam mechanized units at the enemy
-Don't use level one artillery or infantry unless in Africa. You're better off saving the money
Alien Mode
This is a separate section due to its simplicity.
-Abuse artillery. It's the only really effective weapon you have.
-No country is really good, but try to pick one that is near allies. Use those allies. Keep them alive, and as cannon fodder.
-They have shields, but said shields are still vulnerable to nukes;)
