In EWIV attack increase items are the best modifiers for generals. Snare Drum and War Horse are actually superior, but should be rotated between your generals Yes, this. To put it another way: Fire and movement work together. Switch your move and attack items around accordingly, and share them wisely among multiple generals of the same type. Here's another: EW4 - Tavern generals may be temporary but they are not always useless. In rushing conquests or difficult situations, and with medals to spare, take advantage where possible of tavern generals with skills or items suited to your intentions and circumstances.

Sure, tavern generals are nice, but when you're rushing for Victoria, Lan, or even Isabella, they are unnecessary. Good tavern generals also take a lot of turns until they can be bought.

Terrain is important in EW4, rivers and mountains can limit your unit movements. Therefore, always look at the terrain before you make a move.

If possible find a bridge at the rivers and go through there.

EW4-Terrain is important, but spamming guards negates that when doing a speed run. It's all I do, on smaller fronts where my generals can't reach quite well enough.
EW5-Conquer smaller nations first. For example: Persia, discovery. Taking India and Angkor, which isn't that hard, basically makes you a three star. Doing this and increasing the amount of territory you have, also makes smaller nations surrender faster. This can continue, even with 2 stars at some point.
-Don't focus down China first, unless it's right off the bat. Otherwise, it's pain. Much pain, very little fun. Mostly because they usually gain some ounce of ground, further making their surrender more difficult to achieve.
-Charlemagne is worse than Leonidas. 2500 medals. Nuff said.
-Certain nations never do anything. India, Angkor, Inca, and Aztecs rarely gain any REAL ground. Save them for later, when you can instantly kill them off. EDIT: India and Angkor are obviously subjective, depending on where you start. Hence, Persia. Also, by instantly kill, I don't mean end game. Taking over a nation or two should be enough.

EW5: Defending choke points and key/strong cities is recommended especially when the enemy city beyond the nearby one contain a gen. Do math when handling certain units, the ability may not be as good as it seems. Ashigaru deal 100% + 50% damage to all units (disclaimer: 100% damage is dependant on factors such as health, attack points, status and more & is not alway the stated number) Remember to take advantage of daily missions and invasions. For invasions, do make use of them as much as possible before literature criteria prevents your units from upgrading. After certain rates, the chances of abilities like Chaos triggering are much higher. Debuffs like Leadership only gains 2 turn effect duration after having 60% chance at triggering so farm medals for this if possible. Never trust the AI. There exist "God" units in campaigns but there are ways to avoid a slaughter, just be patient.(Note: this does not apply to Suriyothai in Great Patriot: Nanyang Battle cuz you'll have no time, not enough troops near the southern fortress and you'll be surrounded with her at ultimate equipment set mode.) GREAT NAVIGATOR: EAST INDIA COMPANY CAMPAIGN IS NOT WORTHY IT UNLESS YOU HAVE ELITE GENS! (UK power!)

When engaging multiple enemies with multiple forces, consider carefully the order in which you fire and move. Hitting first with strongest units can weaken the enemy and allow lesser units to finish the job in fewer turns.

The first ever tip for wc4!
In wc4, tanks will not always re-attack after defeating the enemy, but you can research technology to insure it does.

EW4: When buying generals, choose first those whose skills enhance the units on which they are strongest.

WC4 Navy is super strong; subs are OP, destroyers are very good, cruisers are meh and carriers suck(unless you have a very good general on them).

WC4: Don't feel bad to steal your allies sities, it's better in your hands anyways Actually thay applies in all games unless: - You're gonna turn your allies against yourself by doing so - You can't afford to defend the position - It's physically impossible to steal the city

Nobunaga Oda, This is true, but I think the point was about not feeling guilty over it; the tactical/strategic reasons for refraining are another matter.
