Well, welcome to the second game of the Diplomacy hobby! For this specific one, we are playing the standard map but with slight modifications to make things more equal. We're playing the Milan variant. And... the starting positions look like this: The seven players are... Napoleon Bonaparte Austria-Hungary: 2 armies, 1 fleet A Vienna A Budapest F Trieste Frederick the Great England: 1 army, 2 fleets A Liverpool F London F Edinburgh Der Kaiserreich France: 2 armies, 1 fleet A Paris A Marseillaise F Brest Von Bismarck jr Germany: 2 armies, 1 fleet A Berlin A Munich F Kiel Quintus Fabius Italy: 2 armies, 1 fleet A Rome A Milan F Naples Singlemalt Russia: 2 armies, 2 fleets A Moscow A Warsaw F St. Petersburg F Sevastopol Ivan Kolev Turkey: 2 armies, 1 fleet A Constantinople A Smyrna F Ankara
This section explains about the different areas of the map. How to move into amd out of these provinces is listed below... Absolute Movement Restrictions:Any space that does not have a specific name on the map is off-limits. Switzerland is also impassable. On the colored map, I already marked all of the unlabeled islands plus Switzerland in medium dark gray, so it's easy to spot them. Standard Movement Restrictions: Sea Space - Fleets only, of course but armies may be passed over via convoy order. Inland Space - Armies only, of course. Coastal Space - Either types of units may occupy the space. A fleet in a coastal space may only move to an adjacent coastal space only if it is adjacent along the coastline (as if the Fleet was moving down the coast to the next space). Specific Movement Clarification: Bulgaria, Spain, and St. PetersburgThese are the only 3 coastal spaces that have two seperately identified coasts. A fleet entering one of these provinces enters along one coast and can then move to to a province adjacent to that coast only. The fleet, nevertheless, is considered to be occupyingthe entire province. Such a fleet should be placed on the coastline rather than completely inland. For example, a fleet at Spain's North Coast cannot be ordered to move into the Western Mediterranean or to the Gulf of Lyons, or to Marseilles. It is however considered to be occupying the whole of Spain. If a fleet is ordered to one of these provinces, and it is possible for the fleet to move to either coast, then the order must specify which coast, or the fleet does not move. For example, a fleet in Constantinople can move to Bulgaria's East or South Coast. The order would be written "F CON - BUL SC" or "F CON - BUL EC". Likewise, a fleet in Middle Atlantic Ocean can move to Spain's North Coast or South Coast, and the written order must specify which coast the fleet is moving to. Kiel and ConstantinopleBecause of the waterways that runs through these two provinces, they are considered as having one coast. Fleets can enter them along one coast and be considered anywhere along the coastline of that particular province. For example, a fleet could move from the Black Sea to Constantinople on one turn ("F BLA - CON") and then on a later turn move from Constantinople to the Aegean Sea (or any other adjacent province). Likewise a fleet could move from Holland to Kiel on one turn and then move from Kiel to Berlin on a later turn (through the Kiel Canal) without having to go around or to Denmark. Armies can also pass into and out of these provinces, freely bridging the waterways. This does not mean units may jump over these provinces. Sweden and Denmark An Army or Fleet can move from Denmark to Sweden (or vice versa) in one move. A fleet moving from the Baltic Sea cannot move directly to Skaggerak (or vice versa) but first must move to Denmark or Sweden. The common border with Denmark doesn't separate the coast of Sweden into two coastlines. Denmark does not border Berlin. Two Different Possible Victory Conditions:The primary victory conditions is whoever owns the most SCs at the agreed upon endtime of the game. But if the players wishes to continue, the game may be extended for 2 more game years however often the extension is desired. The alternative victory conditions is whoever owns 18 Supply Centers at the end of a fall season will automatically be considered the winner with the majority of the map regardless of how many players wishes to continue further. To start off, we will have 10 game years (but with break points after completing the 2nd year, and 6th, then the 10th to see how far along everyone wishes to go).

I won't re-paste but part of the game information is in the country selection thread with a list of my expectations as the GM. Be sure to read through them just at least once. Thanks for the cooperation. I think I have edited the post above to the point where it's considered complete, but of course, if something needs to be added, I will put that in there.

If you have any questions about the map update, see below: The solid colored background filling out the whole space is the physical location of an unit. If you see a white space with a circle of your own color, that's an unoccupied space with a SC you still own without an unit in there. If you see an opposite, a colorful space with a white dot, that's an occupied space with a SC you haven't owned yet with an unit currently sitting in there. The white is the current owner in this case as a Neutral nation. If you see a colored space with a black dot, that's both an occupied space with a SC you still own with an unit currently sitting in there. The black color helps you tell the difference, and that there is indeed a SC in there. So in short, the filling solid color = unit in that space, the colored dot = SC in that space, the absence of a dot = no SC in that space, the filling solid white = no unit in that space.
A reminder to add... Spring Seasons movements don't count for SC captures. Fall seasons DOES count, so keep your eyes peeled for sneaky backdoor manuverings into your home. Oh and don't stop chatting with each other, even your enemy might become your ally if you can change his mind! Best of luck to all of you
Fall 1901 due 2 days from now: Sept 13, 6pm Chicago time (you guys... is this a good time as a deadline? Maybe 7pm is better? Let me know, feedback is always welcome)

european-war-4.boards.net/post/89140/threadI'm sorry, I had realized that I didn't post an abbreviations list even though a few of you have asked me about it. I've posted it up here /\ Those abbreviations are NOT required if you use the full names, but you shouldn't use any other different abbreviations as it can lead to confusion. "Go to NOR"... Nor where? Nonewhere!
I waited a bit longer to see if one player would get a set of orders to me late or not. 3 hours, still nothing... So I'm going ahead now. Fall 1901Napoleon Bonaparte Austria-Hungary A SER-BUD A VIE-BOHEMIA F HOLD. Frederick the Great England Fleet - North Sea - Norway Fleet - York - North Sea Army - Wales - London Der Kaiserreich France F Eng H A Par > Bur A Spa > Por Von Bismarck jr Germany F HEL Hold A KIE Hold A MUN Hold (NMR) Quintus Fabius Italy F ION convoy A NAP to GREA TYR to VIE A NAP to GRESinglemalt Russia A Ukr-Rum F Bot-Swe F Bla S A Ukr-Rum A Gal S A Ukr-Rum Ivan Kolev Turkey A BUL: Move to GreeceA SMY: hold F ANK: Move to CON
Any issues with my maps? Anyone feeling that my maps weren't clear?
