Let's each make a backstory idea for the immediate past, and vote on whose is canon.

My Backstory:
The Island was ruled by rival warlorlds/Nobles, each with his own land fighting others. In 1834, they signed a treaty. This treaty put them in a Loose Confederation, with a leader that was utterly dependent on a Parliament of the various Nobles to make decisions.
In 2014, a Revolution began. The leaders were mostly Military men, but some Civilian Nobles joined them. They seized power in the provinces, and took the cities. After a period of Martial law, and many executions, a King was elected and the new Civilian Government, with a Central Executive, was established. Many old Nobles were executed, and their territories were given as upgrades to loyal Revolutionaries.
2002: Last Foreign war. Victory secured by the efforts of Admiral Frederick the Great and Captain Jean-Luc Picard (alluded to in my bio).
1991: Confederation (what we were before the Empire) Consolidates the Railways into the "Big Four" companies (inspired by a 1923 event in Britain).
1945: Confederation declares neutrality
1944: Confederation forms Air Force as separate Branch
1942-1945: Confederation sends Troops to fight in WWII
1924: An Airport is built
1920: City-State (name, next to little Island) is annexed
1900: A national Army and Navy are formed
1888: Railways begin to be built
1848: Separatist uprisings in the Northeast are defeated
1834: The Warlords unite in the Confederation
1817-1833: The Warlords fight each other in the 2nd Civil War, tearing the Island apart.
1816: the Picard family immigrates to the Island
1813-1815: Island Troops fight for the Coalition, ensuring that Britain does not occupy us
1754-1775: The 1st Civil War is waged, and ends inconclusively.
1704: The Island gains independence from the Habsburgs and soon breaks into Sovereign pieces
1656: the Habsburgs take over the Island
