SolidLight already has an amazing guide. I do have some disagreements over artillery generals but overall I'm not quite sure whether continuing this thread is worth it.

I feel like they are very vulnerable on defense and on offense they don't do too much damage in comparison to troops of similar ages. Also generals like Alexander and Caesar can take down walls quite effectively. I think one really good artillery generals is fine in any line up.

Hey Iron Duke stoic I'm thinking about finishing this up and rework the previous ones a bit. The question now is whether I should make it a mix of everything like the previous guides or specific to each lineup. Which one do you think is better for beginners?

For beginners, probably, an individual approach to each general is more understandable, but, I think, it is not the best one in a long-term perspective. Even new players should have a whole picture in mind, before buying this or that general. Otherwise many of them will purchase a couple of "purple" generals without the slightest idea how to use them properly.

I like the style of this one where you have this introduction link and then an individual analysis of each general.

Even new players should have a whole picture in mind, before buying this or that general. Otherwise many of them will purchase a couple of "purple" generals without the slightest idea how to use them properly. Which is why I'm raising this question. EW5 has the most unique general system in all easytech games. Players could have a whole different set of generals depending on their style of play. The one and only Guderian-Govorov-Patton pathway simply doesn't exist. I think the rainbow color-coding doesn't fit quite well to EW5 in this regard, as there are many lineup-specific generals (Nelson, Asoka, etc.) that will thrive in one lineup and struggle in others. If I want to force that system in, I will have to either making every ok general green or above, which will definitely confuse the beginners, or make it ArchCom oriented, which ruins the diversity of choosing generals, one of the greatest features of EW5. That's why I am planning on making it color coded for different lineups. For example, Jebe could be coded as blue for ArchCom and like orange for others; in that way we can at least give the beginners some idea on whether a general could adapt well into their run instead of telling them to go for Nelson even though they are going InfCom. What I am concerning right now is whether the beginners are comfortable with this, or they just want a simple and straightforward one like the general rankings for other games.

I think the colour coded rating on their suitability for each lineup at the end of each general's analysis is a good idea. P.S. I don't know if anything can be done about it, but it irks me when people interrupt your analysis threads with random questions and comments.

Erich von Manstein as a beginner, I would feel pretty comfortable with a line-up specific rating system. The only thing I would add is a description of each line-up on top so that they are not confused.
